Got Phantom 19 pics?

Hey guys,

Just looking for some Phantom 19 pics - if you have any please post them up!

And what performance would you expect out of a 150hp 4-stroke on the back of the P19? Or a Tohatsu 140?

Tohatsu 140:

150 'Rude

P18 with 150 'Rude:

Thanks

phantoms !!

Hi, I sent both 19's to Bermuda. Do you still have the 1 rule.... 110cu, in . Steven Dasilva 140 would run at 73mph but it wasn't 140 more like 175hp but re builds where oftern. The problem with a 150 foursrtoke is weight also removing rev limiter. You may want to consider 175 suzuki we have tried this motor on p 19 and yet again 73mph. P.M. me for other info .......

If you're going to fit a Tohatsu, they are great motors, but the mounts are the weak link with them!

Tohatsu mounts (rubber) yes are weak you can replace them with nylon. I think you will find it is the bridge that holds the top mounts is actually the weak part. If you fit nylon mounts without replacing this bridge you going to have problems. But with a new srtonger bridge you won't have any problems.

Cool Bermuda Triangle Racer

The rules have changed slightly.

The B Class still exists with the maximum cubic capacity of 110 cubic inches.
Any modifications allowed except no nitrous and no exhaust stacks.

There is also an FB Class that has 150 hp green motors with no mods permitted no even cutting holes in the exhaust for the sound !!

My friend Steven DeSilva still owns the 19 with the Tohatsu.

Aaron Sims sold the other 19 ( FB 44 ) and it changed hands again a few weeks ago. From what I see they have a merc and I was told by a friend of the owner that it is a sleeved down 110 cubic inch SST 120 motor that came off Burgess Tunnel. Motor turns left so they are trying to work out the bugs !

It is a shame that they do not make the 16 foot race deck any more. There were several in Bermuda one was lost in a race and never found and there are still 3 others - one which is running - one which needs to be rebuilt - and one that was ruined as the owner thought he could make the boat run with a aerated stepped bottom like the Ocke's.

Does anyone know if they can still make the 21 foot or the 23 foot in a race deck ?

There are also still 2 P18's in Bermuda - one I own with a modified 110 cubic inch Evinrude which in its day ran about 73 mph and the one shown in this thread has the new green motor.

Nothing like the full race motor with open exhaust !!

So you could run a 200 Verado in "B" Class !!

The LH SST 120 only requires a RH Flywheel & Starter to make it run the right way !!

The 23 never had a race deck option, though I expect Steve would have put something together if asked.

The mould for the 21 race deck was destroyed when Phantom closed down, as there was no percieved call for it.

Not sure if the P16 race deck mould survived, best to ask Clive Jones who now has the P16 & P18 moulds.

find him at www.phantomuk.co.uk

Triangle Racer,

What Phantom 18 is yours? I've seen a few this summer used for pleasure but would love to see some more get out and race. Those hulls seem to work pretty well in FB-class and with the limited costs for running that class I think that's where we need to find new racers. And when can I get a ride in your P18?! I'm in need of a trip in a real boat...

nothing other than the two different builds you know allready. I.E. Baker and Kittens, it is Kittens to which I refere when I say lightweight. There are no top secret builds ( not yet anyway!!)

Out of interest, have the lightweight boats proven to advantageous over a baker build? In terms of speed, stiffness, longevity etc etc etc?

I other words was it a succesfull departure?............ And should we expect Nick B/Bananarama to be commissioning some more lighter ones?

And exactly how 'lightweight' are they, ie, what is the 'actual' weight saving over a race spec SB built XL?

Note, please notice I said SB built.

Bermuda Triangle Racer

Good Day All,

Hey Doppler491 I have a white P18 like the bottom picture. It is in the Devils Hole area where my friend keeps the boat. My boat his motor but I will see if I can arrange a ride for you soon.

Red 5 - Seven is OK still running the grocery store Point Mart. They brought a Sea Ray pleasure boat which they are working on, plus a house, so less time for racing. Also Jason got married and you know how that goes !

New lightweight Phantom would be good as long as the price is right. Duty on boats just went up to 55% of the cost !

OCRDA - from what I see at present ALL the motors in the FB class were the 150 hp Evinrudes and no other brands so the class may have been structured for just that motor. I cannot remember the cubic capacity of the 200 Verado but it would more than likely fit in the E class (stock) which is for motors bigger than 165 cubic inches.

Unfortunately sometimes in Bermuda they start a new class but only open it to one manufacturer. When I was Commodore of the Association the classes were structured to have all the manufacturers included in each class.

The term lightweight is a bit of a misnomer really - there are three "builds" -
  1. SB built original
  2. Barsch / BananaShark laid up to original SB specs
  3. BananaShark layup

They are all out of the same moulds, and the only difference is that the second two are a little lighter as they don't have XR2's hanging off the back. The BananaShark layup ones are more stiff, and the feedback is that they are nicer / faster to drive. The moulds are coming up from Cornwall again for a bit more work soon!
