Gumball Rally??

I know its nothing to do with Boats, but I was thinking, is there a boating version of this type of rally??

Also, has anyone done the actual Gumball? I think the £40k entry is a little steep but could be a laugh seeing who is actually at the parties! (Jodie Kidd)

Yes, there was similar rally done in boats last year from London to France somewhere. 'Verytricky'on this forum did it in his Bladerunner. I think they're doing a similar thing this summer.

The entry for the 'BOAT' version was not £40 000

It was fun, and I will be doing this years one, from London to France to Poole...

Do you get the whole night with Jodie, or just a quickie in the back of her motor?

The F355 replicas tend to be based around a Fiero or a MR2, how do you know its a splash and not a real 360?

Cannonball Run

I was a participant in the last Cannonball Run held in the US in 1979.

I drove a Mercedes Turbo Diesel from the East Coast to the West Coast in 36 hours. It remains one of the finest memories of my life.

I also was fortunate to race offshore at a time that the races were held over open ocean surfaces rathre than up and down the beach.

Actually, there is a 'Rari replica that I like.......its one of the 246 dino based on a lancia. So rather than being completley embarrased in my 348 MR2 when the geniune article pulls up next to me at the lights................. having a 246 replica; I could comfort myslef with the thought that being wop-car based i'll be having all the same thrills (revy engine & great noise) and disapointments (doesnt start or stop) as the fella thats got a real Dino.

No, but the ambulance that was in the movie was actually in the race. It ended up breaking down in Las Vegas and then they hired a flatbed truck to haul it the rest of the way to California. It came into the finish line on the back of the truck with all the racers inside.

It and many other stories are covered in the book by Brock Yates.
