Organising a Poker run, or Cruise of any sort, carries liability implications. I've been speaking with Gill at Drivers Wharf about a party/boating weekend, using her boat shed in Southampton for the party.
The aim is to have a whole weekend, with a party on the Sat night, and boating during the day either side of it.

I don't want to be an 'organiser' of any cruise, but can say "The weather looks OK, so I'm going to Cherbourg (or Alderney), anyone who wants to meet me there, see ya later", likewise for any boating around the Solent that weekend.

In short, a trip to frog would be appropriate, if only to keep the wierdos over the fence quiet!

Mmmm sounds like fun - could meet you in Frog land or the Channel Islands from Salcombe - although wouldn't it be better to stay the night wherever we're going?

Well maybe, but it's easier to predict the weather for one day, and we may be taliking about some small-ish boats, and some may only be ribs!..so lunch in Alderney would be cool, back home in the evening.

But we'll have to see.

That's cool - lunch in Alderney, if anyone is coming from down Devon way we could cruise across with them, have lunch, get some cheap fuel and cruise up to Drivers for a party, home on Sunday! - sounds like fun!

But you are missing the point. Atlantic Xpat was implying that his mate didnt take his fletcher 21 across the channel cos it wouldnt of made it. I believe that it would have been up to the task.

Akershally it was more because they prefer roaring around in ever decreasing circles dragging some poor muppet behind 'em with a plank stapped to his plates than going somewhere with their boat! Fletcher 21 has an excellent hull IMHO and would be more than capable. Its just that most never will.

Well this is all very interesting!

it certainly does seem that many 'speedboaters' are happy to tear about near their base, rather than undertake any long distance stuff.

I would add to that tho', that I also see loads of ribbas jump on the back of the 'birty big bollocks' talk that constantly surrounds the rib fraternety, but very rarely actually do it themselves! all this bull is driven I think, by the very Macho image that ribbas seem to like, hence the cammo stuff, Bowie knives, survival kit etc.

RIB's, Macho Image, WTF are you on about Nobba?

If you mean Macho as in "Leather Chaps, Codpiece, handlebar moustache & leather Thongs" in a kind of "YMCA" and "Cameo" sort of way then i see where your coming fron John.

Otherwise your off your head mate.

OK.

Ive just polled all the girls in the office as to which boat they would choose to be seen in (RIB or Hardboat).

The results were astonishing.

100% of the girls would choose the hardboat.

When asked to examine why they would prefer one over the other, one of them said:

The hardboat looks like a Phallic symbol, full of testosterone and rigid!

The other looks like the condom that had been covering the Hardboat until it was no longer needed and had been subsequently discarded. (I can see the romantic image that conjures up, cant you)?
