I only say that they were both 600's as they came from Steve Baker with "PHANTOM 600" decals on the side from new. It may have just been a metric marketing ploy.
If these are P20's then what did the 600 pad look like?

I have posted this before, but this was our early setup.

Michael,
At the time we were allowed to use hydraulic transom lifters, my personal thoughts are that they did not greatly improve the handling of the boat but were extremely usefull for changing the setup quickly when using different props in different conditions.

From the Horses mouth...

...so to speak.

I emailed a decent pic of the boat in question's transom to Steve Baker and asked the question. This thread has been educational, as his answer clears up a few ??'s about the 600, 20, and their relationship.

QUOTE:

Jon

600 or 20 ?

When the 6m boat was first sold it was called a ‘Phantom 600’ in reference to its length and because it seemed that at that time everything was to be ‘metricated‘. This never caught on though and most referred to the boat as the 20.
We eventually decided, solely because of this, to decal boats as ‘Phantom 20’.
The change had nothing to do with the re-vamp of the running surface to include an area of reduced deadrise.
The easiest way to distinguish between the early and later hulls is to look at the transom and ignore the decals.
The pic. confirms that this is a ‘later’ hull and the design that would have been current up to when we ceased building.
( According to my records, boat serial No. 860915 was built for DB Marine Sales and was supplied as a bare hull and deck. Colour was Golden Yellow with a Black deflector. Original transom height 25½ ins. Bow tank and ‘dump’ valve fitted. So at least we‘re consistent ).

All for now
Regards

Steve"

Hopefully this clears this mystery up, and probably a few others.

Willpower, that's a nice shot! I still think the 20 was a very nicely proportioned boat, very pretty.

Yes, but in 1986 i'd have thought Steve Baker would have been happy to take a call. So all would not have been loast

Willpower/Xtreme MF was a high 'B' number, numbers like B74, B88 and B91 are all popping into my head, defo 'B' though. According to the phantom hull identification thread 'B' was Jan '88 to March '89. So as the original owner says '88 thats where I'd put my money!!!

Hi all
i did start the gel coat rebuild / restoration on streets ahead,i did start first with 1200 grid wet paper ,next 2000 grid wet paper and last a three step buffing with a flex buffer.
first with 3M Marine Imperial Compound and Finishing Material, next step with 3M Marine Finesse-It™ II Finishing Material and last with 3M Ultra Performance Paste Wax .

the dull looking spots are gone with the sanding paper and the brilliant shine like a mirror is the result of the buffing compounds and polishes.
its lots of work but the result is exelent.!!

where the gel coat has no stress cracks it looks like new
