Help!
I am looking at a Cigarette with twin diesels (3208 Cats), and what I think are number 3 Mercruiser drives in a 41' boat - the serial number is CRT 410050480 - am I right in thinking that this is a 1980 41'?
Does anyone know what HP these engines give and what the expected performance might be?
Any other information would be gratefully received as to how many were made, were they good offshore boats (I am planning to do a lot of offshore miles in the boat if I buy it), and is there something better out there I should be looking at?
Thanks!
Photos of drives etc to follow ...........

The horsepower is probably on the tag plate on the engine somewhere, the cats came in a whole range horsepower, depending on model ,turbo/or not
they could be easily 400 hp each ,but you should be more worry about the torque these engines produce on a SSM3 sterndrive on such a heavy boat ,the SSM3 were designed to take 750 hp at 5500-6000 rpm and probably around 750 ft/lbs torque at 4000 rpm,s ,the Cat will probably produce 1200 ft/lbs depending on engine rpm.
You should be gentle with the throttle,s when reentering ,and when accelerating
the SSM3,s are the first style (not the crescent style) but internals are the same .
the year on the boat is 1980 ,like the last 2 digits from the hull number ,not sure if its a 41 ft like the first 2 digits show ,but could be right .
There,s a 41 cig on ebay in the US with 2 x 450 IF engines and Arneson asd8 surface drives ,no idea what he wants for it ,but maybe its woth to give him a call

If you give me the serial and arrangement numbers of the engines I can give you the exact spec of those motors. I can even give you a printout of the dyno test before they left the factory. PM me the numbers and I will send you the info back. General output for 3208 was 280.5Kw

Stirling: can you confirm they are number 3's?
Carl: yes it is that one!
Rich (TI): Boat shopping! (and answer your bloody phone when I call!)
Techteam: The owner has looked for serial numbers and never found any, but I am going to try and contact an engineer that worked on one of the motors to get more information.
Does anyone have any first hand experience with this combination or motors and drives?
Thanks for the help guys - keep it coming!

I think they're earlier than that. My 1982 SSMIII from Warlord, which I believe is the original, is the later CLE style.
I'm guessing it was supplied new in very late 1981, or early 1982, so they'd already gone over to the CLE style by early 1982 at the latest.

Not sure about that ,maybe someone changed the lower unit ?my mercruiser midas starts speedmaster 3 (4 and 5 obviously later) at 1982 -1996 ,so the 1982 should be the straith style ,our BPM engines that came of a 1986 CUV had straith style lowers (SSM3) and that boat was used only a couple of times .
The earlier style was a TRS with a SSM 2 lower unit ,that I thought it was a SSM3 straith lower
Are you sure the drive on the warlord was a #3 ? and not the TRS with the ssm lower called the SSM2 ?
Do you still have the drive ,and what was the ratio ?

I would guess about 50 mph with 400 hp each, don,t forget ,the 3208 are heavy engines, and the speedmasters are going to take about 45 ponies off each engines output, all depending on weight ,try to get as much info about the boat ,and be sure befor you buy that it isn,t a waterlog..
cigs from the old days were build heavy ,and sometimes called,, resin buckets,,
