hi just wondering if any body knows if trim tabs would work OK on a ring 16. because when i throttle up the boat tries to turn and lean to one side (left). running 2.5 200 merc, its of set 1 half inches. didnt want to make new holes so just used the ones that were there. i use it on the sea

Put some weight in the front (fuel tank) and trim it out !! better still fit a smaller engine or a bigger boat !!

Trim it out a bit or try lifting the engine up. where is the prop shaft in relation to the bottom of the boat?

not sure, its a long shaft and is as high as it can go with out making new holes. so that's why i thought maybe trim tabs. i cant move fuel tank as have glassed it well in at front of the boat. i don't have loads of money to sort this out. i don't really want to put more weight in the boat also. may be then move the engine even higher?? what about a lifter, or would that be heavy for my boat ?? thanks for any suggestions

To start I want to say good work on sticking a decent amount of HP on a Ring 16. I've always wanted to know how well they would go with a V6.

To the question, yes an engine jack would be a good idea. No the weight wouldn't affect it, you've got enough power to make that added weight insignificant.

Getting the engine the right height should stop the leaning and give you a better top end speed.

Which way does it lean and which way is the engine offset? Start by putting battery etc on the opposite side to the lean.

Maybe try a prop with a bit less bite in it if all else fails, at the end of the day thats probably has the biggest effect on handling that you'll notice, try and borrow one and give it a try before you buy one.

Good Luck, keep us all updated on how you get on.

Remember only to do one change at a time, if you go wholesale you won't know what has worked and what hasn't. Its a long process but worth it when you have the perfect set up.

my mate had a ring 16 with xr2,
after quite a lot of trying we gave up and got a tandem 16 phantom instead much better, high 70's we took it to windemere for the 3 hr race one year and managed to stay in it, but ultimately you need a bigger boat (18 phantom) until then have fun.......
