Thanks for everyone's help, the boat is called escape (Well done on identifying it) nice to know what type she is.
When I next get a chance I will re-measure it (hopefully correctly this time).

Exactly so. Removed after a season or two.
various other step systems were experimented with , most noticebly the ''Bubble Boat'' that went to CI.
Also full ventilation and tubes into the cockpit to check the vacuum and its effects on performance and handling.
Ther Ring 20 B series MK 1 went on to win class 3C in 1984 in the hands of Peter Ash.
