Hillary Chitty

I was informed by Ray Bulman, on Friday 24th, the sad news that Hillary Chitty passed away on the previous night, following a stroke.
For those who are too young to know, Hillary, her late husband John, together with Sally Windsor & their team ran OPC (Offshore Powerboat Club of GB), which organised the initial London/Mone-Carlo Powerboat Race, & many other races besides.
In reality, OPC was the mainstay of the sport, running races not only in the K, but abroad too.
Details of the funeral arrangements are not known (by me) yet, but when I hear, I will post them here.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Hillary, or John, but my respect for them both has continued to grow as we've discovered just how big a challenge it's been to repeat their 1972 achievement - and we've got email and mobile phones. RIP.

Sorry for typo's - Should of course be Monte-Carlo, not Mone-Carlo; and should be UK, not "K" !!!

I remember Hilary from when I raced in the early 90s. A very charming Lady.
RIP Hilary.

I remember spending quite a lot of time with Hilary when I started officiating, she cut through a lot of the pompous bulls**t that many of the RYA officials at that time had. Hilary was a lovely lady with an outstanding knowledge of powerboat racing, RIP Hilary Chitty!
