How Thirsty

Which would use more fuel, based on leasure use not racing, a 29ft boat with lets say twin 350 mags or a 29ft boat (same boat for arguments sake) with a big 502, I am obviously thinking the twin engine would with the extra weight and power etc but I could be wrong, just thought I would ask the experts. thanks.

Question

Prob the twins, but you could run on just one when you don't need all the power which would be more economical than just the large single. You also get resilience which may desirable, but that comes with twice the maint costs... Swings and round abouts..

There are several advantages with twin engines. Economy isn´t one of them...

I was wondering because most of the US builders Fountain, Formula, Scarab, Donzi all build or used to build boats of the same length 27, 29 ft with single big block or twin small block, just thinking of reasons why that all thanks for replies

In some areas you have to have twins (at least) by law. One advantage is the possibility to get home even if one engine (or drive) breaks down. Weight also gives a softer ride in the rough.
