Hydrobahn Rec Jet 56

This is the new Rec Jet 56 under develpoment and construction. At 5.6m it's a full 800mm longer than the popular Rec Jet 48.

This particular vessel will be powered with a Hamilton Jet 212 jet pump and a GM LQ9 6.0L engine making 440hp. Seating for 5 adults and capable of towing all your toys.

Will eventually be offered in an outboard version (Rec Sport 56) with USCG and CE approvals.

Maybe a little smaller than the offshore power boats, but thought you may be interested as the project moves on.

Don't know anything about aluminium boats, are all aluminium boats built of the same specification ali and is the build process used similar to that of a glass boat, only Adam on this forum as far as I know has built boats in ali, although ali boats around 23' did prove very successful in class 3 racing back in the 80's ... that boat does look like wicked fun could be had on an inland waterway sure as hell would scare the ducks !

Attached is the dyno sheet from GM for the standard LQ9. This one is what Indmar are refering to as the 6.0L ss and is supposed to make 420hp.

Also attached is the dyno sheet for the new LS376/480 which we are looking at using for another client. This makes 480hp out of the box with a factory 12 month warranty. Being all alloy, we have weighed its older brother, the LS2, and including all fluids, alternator, starter but excluding the heat exchanger and exhaust manifolds, weighed in at around 185kg. (weigh a new 350hp Verado <spelling>).

Most aluminium recreational boats are built from the 5000 series of aluminium alloys. These contain higher amounts of magnesium (up to about 4%. This is banned form military vessels after HMS Sheffield was sunk during the Faulklands, it was discovered that the magnesium burned out of the alloy sheet in her upper structure). It is easy to work with, and most common woodworking tools can be used, (skill saw with a TCT blade, HSS drill bits, power plane, band saw, etc...) Construction under 9m is a little backwards to 'normal' boatbuilding in a sense that you create the outer skin first, then place the structure on the inside. Using alloy means we are glorified sheet metal workers, and custom changes are really simple to make and adapt.

I like the fact that kid at the front is leaning on the console and prime position to be launced off the front or out the back.

I guess if it had tubes round the side it would be fine.

Unfortunately customers come first, so progress has been delayed with their new machines and a move to a larger workshop.

Thought I'd post some pics of my old boat going up and down one of the local rivers...

the dramas of the engine cover are over... seem to have made a career out of these, just in need of a little more welding and grinding, then some bling stuff for assembly...

That work is superb! Lovely styling too.

Great to see people that can work with metal like that. (I used to work in the aircraft industry, so have seen some nice ally work)

Very much agree with Jon's comments. Actually may have a contact who could be interested in having a boat built - do you build to other peoples design?

Most of our work is customised around a base package. We have built a few boats designed by others before, so another shouldn't be any dramas.

managed to get some paint on the underside of the hull this week, have been interupted with a couple of raceboats that need building and repair.

First tiime I've sprayed this type of system (base/clear) so am happy with the result.
