does anyone have any pics of these boats what sizes did they do? its the mono's im interested in.

John, surely you are too old to be thinking about getting another boat!! If you are interested in a H20 mono then the Gittins Brothers still have theirs, PM me if you are interested and I will give you their number. They were very quick boats in a staight line but not sure whether they would suit the short OCR courses nowadays.

JF would know the answer to this, wasn't Roger Severy at one point in the early 90's reported to be looking at one of the Hydrolift special projects something along the lines of a Class II cat ?

Well, I know this is an old thread but as they are great boats I thought it would be ok.

The Hydrolift T-17 was the first design in Egil Ranvig's classic mono hull Hydrolift-series. The 17' boat had beautiful lines and was very fast – even outperforming pure racing designs. The boat was a 24 degree v-hull with a convex ski and balance step resulting in a fast boat even with moderate power. The interior was practical with small seats and no side upholstering resulting in a light weight boat.

Owners of the T-17 often name it “the perfect sports boat”. It is nimble to drive and easy to manage loading on and off a trailer. The boat provides a safe and fast ride even in rough weather conditions. It is perfect for day trips, waterskiing and other water sports. The T-17 reaches high speeds even with moderate engines which makes it economical.

The T-17 was manufactured from 1984 to 1990. The huge demand for the T-17 led to the introduction of the T-20 and T-18 models and the racing versions R-20 and the very rare R-18. The larger boats were merely enlarged versions of the 17' boat. The R-20 was used in OCR racing in the UK.

The manufactoring rights/license and moulds of the T-17 were eventually sold to the Gothenburg based company Hydroline where production went on in the name Hydroline 525 until the year 2000. There where two models of the Hydroline 525, the standard 525 for 90hp and the 525 Offshore for V6 power.

This is my T20 with a R20(Race version of the T20-usually in kevlar) racinghatch if there still is any interest in the Hydrolift boats.. Have had alot of work with this over the years.

Hydrolift T-20/T-18 and racing versions

The Hydrolift T-20 / T-18 are classic offshore speed boats. The T-20 is comparatively wide which gives useful cockpit space and the wide aerodynamic deck also generates lift which contributes to the performance of the boat. The boat rides extremely high and it is always a thrilling experience to ride at speeds of 60 knots and more - it feels more like flying low than pushing thru the water, hence the company motto: “Hydrolift – fly without wings”.

The T-20 was introduced in the autumn of 1986 and production went on until 1994. In 1988 when the production was moved to Drammen, near Oslo were it underwent some modifications: the hull was improved with a sharper bow and step to cut easier thru wakes and the cockpit was fitted with a new interior from Seasit. With these improvements the boat became better, more luxurious but also slightly heavier.

In 1989 the F-20 (Fishing) center console was introduced and production went on thru 1994. The F-20 is still in production by Swedish company Piraya Boats.

The T-18 was manufactured between 1988 and 1991 and the F-18 from 1989-1991.

All R-models (Racing) were built with a sandwich technique of glass fibre, carbon fibre or Kevlar. The weight of the R-20 varied from 190kg–250kg depending on build material and racing class (1,3 litre or 2,0 litre). A Hydrolift R-20 equipped with a Nissan/Tohatsu 90hp engine set the Swedish speed record and also the unofficial World speed record for V-hulls in the 1,3 litre class (Offshore B) averaging 61,3 knots (=70,8 mph). The R-20 also held the same records in the 2 litre class (Offshore N) with a Mercury XR2 V6 at 80,3 knots (=92,8 mph) over the same distance.

Today Gothenburg based RIB Unlimited manufactures the RIB Unlimited 700 based on the Hydrostep, a modified T-20 hull.

Hydrolift also made the F23 with inboard engines. We ran one for a few years with a 300 hp merc V8 which we later tuned to 550 hp... Fantastic hull, and one of the more impressing boats I've driven, given its' size. They were later on produced under the Stormway name.

Yes, Hydrolift made the F-23 Fishing (center console) also a 24 degree v-hull but with a flat pad instead of the convex and for inboards. I seem to have misplaced the info and pics I had on the F-23 but will try to retrieve it. (I'm no expert on Hydrolifts but I was very much into these boats for a number of years... )

Meanwhile I found some pics of the F-20 and of the R-20 OCR!

Yeah the cats proved themselves so well in the rough and overall faster than the V-hulls. And you could race bigger classes (D,S etc) since the cats were bigger.. check out the movie titled Hydrolift Race Cats on this page: http://www.hydroline.se/MARINE/index-marine.html
