Isle of Wight members

Just out of interest , i was wondering how many Boatmad members there are on the Isle of Wight.
Actual residents i mean , not people who visit from the north Island at weekends.
I personally only know two , but there must be more ?

Me also, just outside Yarmouth, ran three phantoms over the years , no real hard boats at the moment, but a 8m stingher running a 300 verado and a rxp-x 260 ski ( very quick )

Vectis- land of powerboating legends

Historically The Isle of Wight has to be one of THE most important Powerboating locations,

The first modern offshore race in Europe - Cowes 1961 -and still going strong

Start venue for the 2013 venture Cup (and the first race in the whole series)

Influential ex Cowes residents including Sir Max Aitken and Renato Levi

IOW built boats including,

Ghost Rider - world champion 1966

Surfury

Delta 28

Gypsy Girl

Gee

Telstar

Miss Enfield 2

Marlboro

Unowot

etc etc etc

I grew up in Cowes and saw every race from 1961 to 1976(my father entered the 1962 race in Bali Ha'i powered by Bermuda outboards-the only ever all British outboard entry)

I finally moved in 1980 to that "other" great powerboating island that also punches above its weight in this sport- Guernsey

I returned to the IOW for work twice in the 1990s and drove the start boat for the 1991 Cowes Torquay Cowes (The Cowes Express Surface effect ship Wight King) and my last visit was in 1996 when I finally departed on the Hovercraft to Southsea - yet another IOW invention.

Offshore Powerboats- Flying Boats- Hovercraft- Space Launch vehicles and not for getting our rag and stick friends the odd sailing event (Americas Cup , admirals Cup, fastnet race etec) - Must be something in the water there(or was it the Burts Beer?)

Chasseur

Your are right about the name of the boat.
He skippered it for a guy called Barry Heath who at the time was MD for GKN who also lived in the Prospect, there is another flat on top and I spent many a happy hour up there being introduced the delights of drinking whisky .
When I ended up working at GKN, I worked with someone who actually used to own 'Chasseur' ,this was not that long ago,he seems to think the boat is still about.

In that case Dave, can you possibly find out if Chasseur is still around, & where please ?
She would be another to add to our register that COPC is building up, of old race boats.
