Lack of Cowes Publicity

I have always said that there is never any mention of racing on around the south coast and no advertising when there is an event on.

Today I was discussing the boat with a friend who lives in cowes and said that dad was hoping to use it in the round the island race, his reply was "What do you mean....round the island is for yachts??"

Despite living in cowes his whole life (allbeit only 15 years) he was completely oblivious to there being a race weekend every year, drawing competitors from around the world.

I know spectator boats can be aggravating, however, if there was some mention of the event on radio stations and advertising locally, just imagine how many more spectators this could draw to the event, undoubtedly giving more people the idea to join the sport....

Any views on this??

Max

agreed, as I have lived and worked in Poole all my life, I am always amazed at the zero public awareness to the average person on the street. I think dare I say it the average UK offshore race these days does not have enough entries and big noisy boats to keep the non offshore spectator intrested, no disrespect to all those people spending time and money at present racing. thankfully these people exist or there would be no uk offshore scene at all !!!

I agree to, there is never enough publicity for the offshore events, just sat here listening to WAVE 105FM the presenter is doing a Honda F4S training course at warsash so there is some, just got to get the right people involved.
