Do you mean the 220xri?
If so, I think they're ok, a little old now, but reasonably reliable.
Only realistically 200hp though.

Hard to say from those pics. it's got an alien cowl.
I'm not that up on the OB stuff, but if it's a 2.4 litre, it's gotta be pre about 1990.
The full model name of the one I'm thinking of is Laser 220 xri
Johnny boat dude on this site is well up on the Merc stuff, mebbe he can help.

Those numbers as Burty said are for the 2.5.
Numbers for the 2.4 are 225 (carb) and 240 (EFI) but its the same deal so they both make 240hp or there abouts!!!
EFI's have more low end punch though.

If its a Mercury Laser XRi 220, then walk away very quickly, they were and most probably still are nothing but trouble, Mercury soon dropped the engine and didn't return to EFi for normal engines (i.e. not race engines) for quite a few years

No thats not true ,mercury used the 2,4 laser xri very short ,but that was only because the 2,5 was coming.
Directly mercury made a 200xri 2,5 with a 7 pedal intake .to 92 then they swich from 7 pedal to 5 pedal intake.
electronics were the same (exept for ecm value,s )
2,4 stock carb or efi,s have a single exhaust port ,high perf 2,4 have a bridgeport exh.
The same efi laser intake system was used by mercury all these years to +- 2004 now they all have the pcm system.

Thats your opinion mate, but 2 crankshafts in 2 seasons when the engine is less than 2 years old speaks volumes
