Just as a thought it may be easier to re-locate the Museum exhibits if they could be split into 2 parts ie ... INSHORE POWERBOATS and equipment and OFFSHORE POWERBOATS and equipment making the spaces required considerably smaller for each respective sport
Also the people that enjoy offshore tend to follow offshore albeit maybe with a small eye on their inshore cousins and like wise inshore racers tend to mostly follow inshore with perhaps only a mild interest for offshore
Bit like car people they will go to a car show or museum and likewise bike people to their respective shows
Just my 2 penny worth

museum
i think that if you try to split an exhibit such as this there would not be enough of one type of discipline to make an interesting display . if any think this needs more boats and poss a small charge for an entery if basildon council were to make money from this they would may be look at it again . but as i have said this is my ski club and untill now i have heard no news of this facilaty being closed .the green museum is housed in a new purpose built building .my two boys and my self were there in late sept and there was no mention of it closing i may be wrong but i am sure there would have been some posters on this some where. i hope i am not proved wrong. dodgy dave

I poped into the museum today as I was passing. Unfortunatley it would seem a council meeting this week confirmed the closure. It will be a tradgedy if the collection and all the years of work by Julie and her staff are lost.
The suggestion of relocation at Beaulieu seem a great solution altho Lord Montague would have to want it and someone will have to fund a building and the cost of transfering the collection (lottery funding perhaps?) This would certainly guarantee the greatest number of visitors and help raise the profile of powerboating. The National Maratime Museum would also have the problem of space even if they were interested. Altho the could be very influential in helping to find a new home.
In the mean time we should all raise awareness of the situation so it does not pass unnoticed especially with the press and anyone of influence.

If its not too late, it would be good to get some campaigning news person to take up the case.
Nick Ferrari at LBC is known to like his power boats, he may well be interested!
Heres a link to his site. http://www.lbc.co.uk/email-nick-ferrari-3421
