Marshan wins

It must be a case of not knowing the british powerboat history from the 70s if you don't know about Marshan wins. The Marshans had many wins in the OCR classes with 85,90 and 115 hp outboards back in the 70s and 80s. Barrie Williams was one of several drivers, he had a very sucessful 16 Marshan winning several national championships with his Marshan 16 powered by a 115 hp Mercury. Several Marshan 18s had similar sucsess in the offshore class 3C with the biggest in-line 6 syl.Mercury 150 hp, before the Mercury V6 came, but also with the first Mercury 175 hp back in the mid 70s and early 80s. I believe the Marshan 21 Desperado boat was the best standard production boat in the 1985 World Championship for the offshore class 3C. Nowadays, class 3 has become a highly spesialized racingclass of cause with quite exotic boats with steps, air intake on the deck, cockpits and catamarans, so a classic style monohull like Marshan can't compete, but just like the Ring and Phantoms, Marshans have become a classic sportsboat from the 70s and 80s.

Steps in hulls or vented Chines only give more lift so power units could be reduced giving a lighter rigged boats on craft of these sizes it didn't make much difference on the winged bat boats so many good race drivers have been spat out and injured when the wings dug in there is a lot to be said for marshan phantom and rings as many have gone back to them

So positive the Marshan is an icon along side the rings and phantom I've been lucky enough to have owned all three brands and each one has been a joy....I did the pwc thing for ten years!!! So glad we kept the last Marshan 21 HYPERACTIVE in the barn for those lost pwc years.... BRING ON THE OLD SKOOL......The Marshans have landed again!!!! Back to the future

I hope so Russ. Looking around the show here in Cannes, some very nice pieces of kit but to the trained eye the finish on the boats is absolute rubbish. Am I'm an accountant!!!!!!! People only see cosmetics these days and that is part of the problem. Anyone can build a pretty boat, built like an air fix model.

There must still be money around though, a Boston whaler here with 3, yes 3, 300 verados on it!!!!!!!!!

Cool

Just a thought but there is a possibility that a modern day version of the Marshan 18 with an HO 115 and an awesome driver could win the world 3G title,or is that nostalgia talking ?

No Hugh it would have to be a former driver of the year !
Your old White 17 Ring would also do it especially if the competition were held in local waters hint hint !

. That's a good question for Pete and Rich, it would be great to see the new marshan 21 racing again.

With a bit of luck the new marshan will be ready for the lymington challenge on
The 29th September. Driver Andy Hiscox and nav Glen Thompson. We obviously need time to test it when it gets back from Cannes but that's the intention. For now she is bobbing around with black magic in Cannes Harbour.

Oh oh I forgot to mention one of the all time classic Marshan race boats
The unforgettable 18 foot Hot Chocolate
These boats also had on board electric fuel pumps- again ahead of their times.

On the 22 Nd of September we will be contesting the final championship weekend race in Guernsey if you fancy a pre shakedown, shakedown !
Could be. A great chafe to showcase the product to circa 20 race teams
