Bubbledek on M3

Yes, it was my Bubbledck on the M3
It had been up in London parked at the Park Lane Hilton for a Gala awards ceremony, last night.
Boat is 44' long from props to bow.
Big Red, was the Tow vehicle.
Everything went great - loads of interest in the boat and powerboating from the people in London

Bubbledeck- Popeyes, Halter Racing Fayva Shoes

The white Bubbedeck, now called Bubbles is the sister boat to Bounty Hunter.
Built slightly later than BH, she is lighter in build. Kevlar hull, she has undergone a 2 1/2 yea refit, been finished off by th best in the business Mike Bontoft.

Bubbledeck photos

Here are a couple more.
The reception we had by all in London was amazing. People from all walks of life, all ages were interested about the boat and what we were doing. (Raising money for charity). Some thought it was David Beckham's boat, others thought it was the boat that was involved in the opening ceremony of the Olympics. However, all loved the lines and thought it was brand new!
Driving past Harrods and around Hyde Park corner and Marble Arch certainly stopped traffic. Thanks to all the drivers who were so helpful in letting us steer the "rig" around the corners and letting us pull out when needed- you were really helpful.

What's her racing History..?
I have read about this boat somewhere, might even be on boatmad. Was she part of the Halter Racing Team at any point as you mention she was sister ship to Bounty Hunter, must be e few old race pics of her flying about.
Mike Bontoff sure does get these older boats back to life...!

Does not bother me if it is legal or not

But why are you saying it's legal with air brakes.

American trucks are not legal to tow over 3500kg in uk and vehicles with over 3500kg gvw can only tow up to 12 meter max length

Whilst not applying to this particular set up, it's worth knowing that the 12m (and 7m) lengths do not include the drawbar. Now go and have a look at your trailer and I bet you'll understand why it is built as is. ;-)

Then bear in mind that the lengths apply only to the structural trailer not the load or lighting mounts and with a clever bit of overhang it is quite possible to get right upto the 18m overall train length and beyond legally.

What part is determined as the draw bar?

Also does it include the over hang in the 12m?

The whole draw bar thing is such a grey area - think about those massive glider boxed trailers .............

Regardless of what's towing a trailer if it's over 3,500 kg it'll need air brakes AFAIK.

As Cookee says the draw bar is a grey area and one that trailer manufacturers capitalise on. See the oft used method of a A frame with a drawbar to a tie. It can be argued that the measurement doesn't start until the tie.

Overhangs are dependant on whether you deem it part of the load or not. So the other end of the measurmeent could well be the last point of support with anything behind being deemed ancilliary.

Another good 'dodge' is to look at when the trailer was manufactured as the law for construction at the time applies not latest legislation.
