One for Olli

Another craft for your files.

This one was designed by Don Shead and Colin Chapman in 1973.

Chapman was in his pomp at that time with all sorts of trick ideas for the time,with materials from the racing car industry.
A designers ego gone mad.

The boat weighed 7.5T with 2 x 210hp Ford diesels for a 46ft hull which was a lot lighter than Sunseeker type boats,but needless to say it wasn`t cheap.

Who copied who,I suspect Powles.Most Shead styling was ahead of the game.

A lot of the Sunseeker styling was copied by similar builders,as was the engine hatch styling on the early seventies raceboats,even transom styling got copied.

Thank you for the pics! The Marauder was not a stranger to the German crowd. Their importer did quite a lot of advertising (unfortunately b/w only):
