Fiona and I took responsibility for ourselves when we said yes to the recent successful circumnavigation of Ireland. But your concern is appreciated Richard. For ways to support the charity involved see here http://www.boatmadforum.co.uk/showth...=&threadid=722

Glen that's an open minded view

JWalker now I'm going to be worried about you as well.
Sounds like a floating MFI out there...

Anybody that goes to sea in a smallcraft is responsible for their own safety and must measure and accept the risk themselves

It would be a fairly sick person that didn't wish any seafarer safe passage and God's speed ( I am not a believer, but it seems an approriate phrase) So I should hope it goes without saying that everybody is glad that they are alive and safe. Given that they are well then hey...what a mother of an experience gotta be one of the moments of a lifetime! so lets be happy for them

If I had been offered a place (and could have afforded it) in the missus round Ireland trip, rM Priddys last crossing or on the boat that burned at Brighton I would have taking it without a second thought and worried about the Fkk ups later

So I kinda agree with you Missus. I am sure that some of Richards comments were based on the Nobbers deep affection for you but I notied that his comments didn't go as far as asking how to donate to the Charity.

I've been responsible for myself for some time now and wouldn't dream of putting the onus on anyone but myself should anything serious have happened to us on the Round Ireland trip.

Ta anyway.

It's a Phantom 18 - Cowes 2000 driven by Ian Sanderson - I was in another 18 as well as the BananaShark - the Solent can be a difficult place for racing boats!

Been there done that in a Phantom 18, but we went in straight and just stopped, they went in at a slight angle and destroyed the boat, and didn't do themselves any favours either only it was luckily superficial.

Actually it was a 19 Excel, as pointed out earlier by someone else, and I don't think they went in at any odd angle, the boat jst disintergrated, it had been in a very serious stuff, a few weeks earlier which resulted in the main structures of the boat being ruptured, it was taken to Steve Baker for repair, but he refused, sighting that it wasn't possible to repair it to a standard he considered safe, and it should be scrapped (it was something like 10 years old, and had been raced at the top level all it's life).
The owner refused to accept this and took the boat away, a repair was done elswhere, the rest is history.
