Phantom 16 Q

Were there any differences between the regular P16s and the racedeck 16s (besides the deck)? And did the side by side seating of the regular 16 cause any noticeable driving differences (handling, speed, etc.)?

having the crew in the centre of the boat does provide a good side to side balance especially if you are on your own in the boat, but the main reason for a race deck was to enclose the cockpit to make it more aerodynamic so therefore a little faster than its open cockpit counterpart. even though the open boat was a little lighter

obviously im not concidering a "lightweight" hull

So would you recommend a racedeck P16 for offshore racing? Or would I not see much of a difference between them?
And for racing in a 1.3L class are there any newer/better designs than the Phantom? How does the Ring 16 compare? Are there any Ocke Mannerfelt (bat boat) 19's or 22's around that aren't being raced any more?

Nope, they are both a harsh ride -just take good advice on how to set one up!

You can always buy a 19 Sharpe that ran with a 150 Evinrude HO but now has a 90 Yamaha so will be in the same 1.3L class for only $7,000 with trailer.

Are there any other A-class hulls laying around? I know of one other P16 but it's in bad condition. If I had the $$ I'd ship something in from Canada - but that's not going to happen anytime soon...

Nice pic..I took it

if you know of someone wanting it it is $8,000 not $7000 forgot what the guy wants for the engine. In Canada in Cambridge Ontario there is a place that makes boats www.tuffmarine.com, I think they are based on the old Challenger boats.

Yeah, their 21 hull is a modern upgrade of the original Challenger design. They make some pretty fast boats (albeit on a flat lake) - 102mph with a 300x on the 21 and 64mph with a Suzuki 4-stroke 90 on their 16. I've spoken to the builder and he reckons with a Yammi 90 70mph is easily achievable...

Is the Sharpe in good shape? I know it's been beat-up pretty bad in the past few years of racing but hopefully it's all been fixed. Does the Yam 90 push it along ok?

We will find out this weekend when we go testing, will let you know how it runs. She is an old boat but still is in fair shape, cracks have been fixed and with the 90 will not be running 70 as she did with the 150 HO.
