Phantom 16 restoration

Hi all , I've just been given a phantom 16 with Yamaha 75aet. It's needing some work to transom - I be not done much with boats but I'm planning on cutting outboard well out , remove rotten transom and re tab and glass new ply and glass transom then re glass the outboard well back in. Is that the easiest way to tackle this repair?
Thanks
Neil

You’d do a better job to split the deck from the hull then you can replace all the transom properly and the drop the deck back on with no messing cutting the well out.

Pull the rubber out of the rubbing strip, this will expose the rivets. Drill these out and remove the alloy. On the inside of the boat you can cut the glass where the join has been glassed over.

The boxed sections either side and seat bases need repair also- quite a project!
Will I need to brace the hull when I take the deck off?

Got exactly the same problem with my 21, all the people I have been talking to, have said spilt the hull, as this is how the transom was originally fitted. The problem I have, is that the joint was glassed over on the inside, so will be hard to find, Steve Baker made Phantoms light by not using much fibre, so I could sand through the deck trying to find the joint.
How shown the boat to a couple of companies and have decided to go with Ricard at Romney Mash Marine, thought £1500 was a very fair offer to undertake the work. Goes there once I have striped it in November. Will post updates.

Cut it from the inside . Make a bunked cradle to keep hull straight if your doing stringers
