Phantom 18 Project

so I started to strip down the phantom today. the crack in the transom looks as if it was just the pointless stainless bars crushing the transom well. I will reglass and filler this after I have replaced the transom (making it 25" tall for either yam 130hp or the mystery 2.4 with wh22 carbs.

Ah ok just curious. I remember Stuart racing a yellow 18 in OCR in 2003 before he got the green 19.

Looked like this one.

they are both there, you can just about see one In the pic with the tank, there is an additional knee that comes from the well forward on the left side (guessing they built that to mount things on).

Glad someone else is going through the same restoration makes me feel much better, its an Avenger 21, 1970 spot on, its the old Whitehall shipyard at Whitby after finishing second in class in Whitby race, and that hoodie is an anorak with a hood on my mother used to make me wear ! the guy drinking out of the cup was my step dad Les seed, he later went on to win quite a few races in 1971 in a Seejen called Born Free which he was involved in building, there were a few boats produced Glass Goddess , Marilyn, Dumbo, Unitex Kid to name a few.

I could honestly shoot who ever put this floor in.
have they never hear of marine ply and glassing neatly without sealing the edges with sikaflex
honestly im having a world of trouble getting all the scraggy edges off and its so rotten it stinks to high heaven.
they have also drilled through the outer chines allowing water in under the glass making that gopping too.
more pics will follow but I broke my phone and on a £9 Samsung pos atm so cant
it will be awesome once finished.

would really appreciate pics of insides of phantom 18's. I need to decide if I should take out the original floor (the one between the 2 tall chines (or whatever they are called, to tired lol))
it is solid and in nice condition but travels the whole length, its got to be 30kgs of wood and glass there.

well after I finished the head gasket on the micra, I had another 10mins at the boat today. what's this, a f**k*** broom handle to bung up the ballast dump hole. ffs. nice use of builders sealant to keep it sealed, oh that's right your supposed to use sikaflex not builders sealant.

anyway pulled ballast bung out and the broom handle is completely rotten so wont be keeping that as a spare for the workshop brush
the ballast pickup is now off. and the tractor tyre innertube (where the ballast tank should be) is now out. workshops a pig sty but its coming along.

next job is to cut along the glassed area that keep the biscuit tin deck connected to the hull and lift it off. only prob is its been painted so many times you cant see the strip.

anyone know how high above the rivits the hull inner lip goes?

pics to follow but I asked the wife if she could come up to the workshop to take some piccys and when she arrived she told me she had forgotten her phone

Unless you can find a better option( inflatable turn mark),the tractor tube might save your boat 1 day
