phantom 19 once again

I couldn't find answers for those questions by search mode so...

How fast they can run with 200-225 hp??
How heavy they are??
Does anyone still produce them?? Or do I have to look for some used hulls??

How much slower would be P20 with the same engine??

Thanks
Mike

I don't know much about the Phantom 19 (I'm assuming you mean the EXL, which is actually a 20 footer) But understand that it's as quick, if not a tad quicker, than an 18 with the same power. With a 225hp motor, i'd guess at upper 70's, mebbe 80.

One person who would be able to answer any questions you have, is Nick Barsch, who developed the boat with Steve Baker (for 2 litre OCR), and who now owns the moulds/rights to the boat.

there's an email link on his website @ http://www.phantomboats.co.uk/

I'm certain he'll be only too pleased to help, and there's no one who knows more about the boat than him.

Before I confuse you, my Phantom will reach 67mph/107kph with a 200hp Evinrude, with 4 blade 13.5x25 Renegade prop.

Mine is a often refered to as a P19. It was built and is badged by phantom as a P18 EXL and it measures just over 20ft.

so much is dependent on the type of motor & setup. Daren's "Goldeneye" has a big 'rude and i'd guess a fairly placid setup.

Nick B...... knows the boat better than he does his own children; I know that an 18 (all race prepared & setup) with an XR2 runs close to 80mph..................... Nick considers the 18XL (@2ft longer) to be able of acheiving a faster 'peak' speed with said engine & more importantly; should obtain a greater average speed point-to-point due to the boat being that bit bigger & requiring less driving.

A P20 with a 200 merc will typically do 65 to 70. More for a full on race boat, light lay up etc.

The thing is that I wan't to "build" lake/river boat
That is why I don't need big stability on waves
I would like to put some modern 200-225 DI mercury with a sport master, offcourse if I could afford it. If not I will buy XR2
If the boat will run on flat water I would like to put a pad on it, I will also put extra weight (like fuel tank, battery etc.) in the back of the boat. I will also put quite big setback for the engine
And I would like to run 80+mph
Do you thin it is possible??
Maybe I should buy P18?? It is propablly lighter....

Hi Mike, We build the boats for Nick, and I can tell you that one with an XR2 on should reach high seventies easily, with a modern engine such as the XS200 or even the 225, I think 80 should be achievable. Nobody runs setback on 18's or 19's, this is partly due to the racing rules over here, but they seem to run very well without them! Nick is very knowledgeable, and if you want his number PM or email me and I'll let you have it. By the way weight is not an issue - we have just built a lightweight one for OCR with a Yamaha 130 and it is doing over 60mph.

Just thought I'd quote this, maybe useful some time in the future

I reckon I could build a 100 kilo P28, that's also not an issue. mebbe even a 50 kilo one

Reckon I'd wait n see it held together before I advertised it though. Those trailers can be a bugger!

You may get accused of using customers money to develop your build schedules

Actually the new boat was very much a development hull and it was built to prove the layup etc works and it wasn't built for Nick either but with his permission (a one time thing before anyone asks!), he is as interested as everone how it works out!

Nick won't be selling them untill the new boat has seen a lot of action though!

I saw the 19 (XL) at the OCR Whitstable race, ran well.

Is the XL homologated now? How does it measure up with the weight regs?

Believe it or not there arn't any weight regs at the moment, although some of the teams are trying to get them reinstated! Watch this space!

The 19XL has been homologated for a long time now.

I just thought i would advise you that the RYA have informed me as OCRDA secretary that the rule regarding minimum weights was never removed and at present the following minimum weights still apply to OCR for the 2006 season
A class 575kgs
B class 400kgs

If this is proven to be wrong by our Chairman,i will immediately post a message advising you of the rule change
