Phantom 21 - buying help?

Hey All,

Thinking of buying this Phantom 21...

It looks pretty amazing and the guy seems kosher as it's from a boat yard but....

I've found out that the boat was in Guernsey prior to going to the UK and has had very light use since the engine was put on as new over here - I wondered if anyone knew anything else about it.

Also wondered if anyone had any ideas on what was a good price for this outfit - my main worry is that it's over priced and what I'll lose when/ (if) I sell it?

Am planning to use it as a leisure boat and race it in the Basic Races in Guernsey - it's the best Phantom I've seen so far by a long way (but also the most expensive!!!!)

I'm based in Guernsey and don't really have the time to get over to see it - I was wondering whether anyone could recommend a mechanic in the area who could go and have a look for me, or if there was anyone on here in Devon that might be able to go see it and get the guy to take them out for a sea trial on my behalf?? Obviously in exchange for some beer tokens!!

looks tidy dude, but how many hours are you expecting to go boating for per year?? as those engines need a rebuild every 50 hours as they are a reace engine!! bank on 2 litres of fuel per minute plus a litre of oil every 32 litres of fuel and the oild is £10 per litre, should see mid 80's with it though

Forgot to say I can plug into the motor and get the history for you as well including rev limits etc.

That one seems to have been for sale for ever! Just recently changed hands to the current boatyard though afaik. If you're looking at that, personally I'd look at these two too. £12k seems hugely overpriced to me, the interior isn't anything special and I'm not a fan of car seats in a boat.

Link 1 Once you've removed the name graphics from this one it looks quite good to me. It's an original rig, with a much more reliable engine. A mate of mine runs the same motor and it's goes brilliantly. All for half the price of the other one! Ok, not quite as quick, but at least you don't have to rebuild the motor every year!!

Link 2 If you really want to spend 12k and have a 2.5 280 on the back, I'd look at this one too. It's a cobra built one, but they're built properly under license and the interior really is special this time! The equipment level is much higher, it's got GPS etc and it's a virtually new hull, all for the same price. The engine is due a rebuild, but you can use that to fight him down a grand and then use the money to have it rebuilt, giving you the boat with a newly rebuilt motor for the same price!

There seems to be mainly Rings or Phantoms for sale..Whats the main difference's?? (sorry for being a novice..)

Had two of each,made up with all 4 of them,all depends what you want to do with them really,Ring for pleasure/ski racing,phantom for offshore,no doubt other people on here will disagree.

the one one with the optimax on ebay is very clean it a nice boat if i had,nt just bought a 19 i would of had it

I Remember this boat on front page of our local news paper the guy had it serviced and the chimps forgot to tighten the nut that holds the steering on to the outboard, on his first trip out the back seat passenger got thrown out the boat at high speed half way to sark as a result of the nut coming off. No serious injuries just a couple of cracked ribs and put off boats for life.

That isn't correct.The guy that got
thrown out has brought a very nice
orange Ring 20 and intends to race
it with xr2 .
Its what Formula 69 should be doing with that argo cat !

No no no, formula 69 should be selling that argo cat to someone who can get it set up right for racing again as she used to.... Me!

And it wasn't the 'chimps' who are responsible for that jesus bolt going, it was the driver/owner's fault for not checking it before going out. The 'chimps' had previously tightened it to the correct torque when they last worked on it quite some time before the incident.

Cant really recomend on price but I have a P21 with a 2.5 280hp and I love it, you wont be disapointed with respect to performance, only thing is the fuel as Mr Burtys says can push 2 ltrs a minute, worth it though, unless a bernico ever comes up in my price range I wouldnt chop it in for the world - all in MVHO

Well I actually just spoke the guy involved and he's positive it's this boat the only reason it made headlines was because he works at guernsey press

As for the Argo all good things come to those that wait
