Wot

Hey Rich,

Stef mentioned you guys were still debating whether to go twin or stay with the single installation.

Sooo....I was just wondering what speeds are you getting from the single 300+hp now then?

Steve

Hi there Michael,

Half the weight ha!.... I doubt it....But!

The last I heard, Rich wanted to change to a Capilano Helm....So you might just get lucky if you make him an offer on that one.

Going by the pictures that looks like a sea star helm, I think the standard seastar pushes 2 Cu.In of oil per revolution,

There is 3 models of the capilano, however the most common is the 1275V which is adjustable from 2.7cu.in. - 5.4 cu.in of oil per revolution, This is more suited to side ram set ups as the rams are generally larger so require more oil.

You can use a seastar helm with a side mount setup however it'll be more turns from lock to lock.

Take caution if your thinking of doing this, the seastar pro helm is designed to operate with a balanced steering ram so it would probably 'lock up' if used with a side mount because there unbalanced, well most of them anyway.

He had to change it to a capilano helm because it took to many turns of the wheel to turn the boat

depending on what rear ram you are using sea star helm should be fine, i ran capilino and yes its big and pumps alot of fluid but it makes the steering very heavy as you are supposed to run a large steering wheel with it
