Yeah, a great boat it was too. Such a shame now there's not a class for racing it now really.

One was a Bishop motor and the other was copied to match (by I think phil collins for block work), anyways, they weren't really quite the same. What it did do very well as a twin, was run completely pitch stable. the balance was nice. Super soft ride too compared to the inboards. It was a very light boat.

Seem to remember these engines running 117 mph down Windermere on the Puma cat at the last records week held there . Can't have been a lot wrong with them .

Well, maybe 1000rpm difference is normal then.
If they were running ok on the Puma, it's clearly impossible they didn't run correctly 2 years later on the P28.
It may have been: odd props (doubt it)
It may have been: a sick engine (clearly impossible)
It may have been: odd gear ratios (who knows, who cares)
It may have been: any number of things, but one motor well down on revs for whatever reason would be a good place to start looking for an apparent lack of speed, as I would expect low to mid 80's with that very light P28 and twin, healthy, tuned 2.5's.

Yeah, I think with a right setup, low 80's would be achievable. If mine would get close to that, i'd be very happy

I have a p28 and rigged for rb08 with twin smiling jacks 2.5efis. Ive done it and all i could do do was the 80mph mark the motors had racing spirit but no grut i went thru atleasts 12 boxes there where never built to push such a big tub. I ran 300xs 3.2l no problem. Name of the game big boat big engines the 2.5 is a unbelivelable motor for its day and still is on a small boat. Ive been there. All best taz

When you PM me, you said that you got 84mph was that with the 2.5's? Think you were blowing the boxes because you were running too deeper pitch props on a 2:1 box, 32's I believe? I will only be running 26" props on 1:87 gear ratio, so won't load the boxes up heavily. If you get the shimming dead right, they'll last a lot longer. Cheers Rich

The gearboxes are also fragile on the X Cats, Sportmaster seems to suffer in twin applications - I would have thought that they would be working harder on a P28 than on a Cat?
