Another Blufin from Windermere 1979.

Looks possible that it shares the same sponsor as the boat in your 3rd picture, just wondered if it was a significant connection between them?

Blufins' Dad (Navigator) raced 2 x Blu Fin cats in 3B.

The picture in the Blufin post is of the first boat.

At 16' they felt it was too small and had the boat you have posted built a year later.

The picture in your post is of the 18' boat setting the National 3B speed record 57 "ish" mph in 1980 with a Suzuki 80 hp.

I have never seen that pic before and was surprised to see how many deck mods were made for 1981.

John is quite correct in was the 2nd in the series for the old Boy.

Right once upon a time,
They purchased the old "Blu-Blood" a Ron Wolbold mono, refurb came out i think it was about 1977 with it. Anyway they were at the boat show, Jan 78 on the Marina stand ( Rons Production Designs, They had his Blu-Fin Logo on the Foredeck) & happened across Ron, Bit of piss-Taking ensued & Ron said he would build them an offshore cat for the 1978 season which he did, think it arrive quite late as the project didn't start till about late Feb
The sponsorship came from the same, Marina Boats, which was tied in with Cresent outboards ( eek who recalls them)
First outing for it was a choppy old day at the varne boat club, Split a fuel tank, (Old lorry tanks in dem days), first time I've not know the pair of em NOT smoke in a boat.

They always thought the 16 was potentially quicker than the 18 in terms of flat out but the 18 would go through pretty much anything.
Many a memory running around Bedfont in the 18 & Iver in the 16. What was it dont go over 3k and come back in in two hours, teenage dream.

The 16 was sold onto a guy in Wandsworth with a car Audio place & I was gonna race with him for the 79 season but that all went down the pan & it sat for another year very much unkept before reappering as 050 with Duncan Grant driving

1978 Brighton Think this was their first win with the 16

A Foggy Camden Race

Cant Recall Where, But you will see the differences from Mintos pic
Pod added to rear, Different Fordeck, which was beefed up, Higher Surround and defector at the front.. used to roll right up the deck & was a very wet boat till the mod.
In fact I dont think they ever had a pic of the boat when it was a Orange Suzi powered rig only other I've seen was in the Suzi brochure of the following year.
Old boy would have loved to have seen it, cheers Minto

Probably.

Though I bet he isn't using his spare time to rig a 3C cat or help organise a RB race -

He must have grown up.

Well done John, just what we have been waiting for ! Pictures of Blufins old man bring back the memories of how he used to wind me up before every race. He would wander over puffing away at his fag and and say something along the lines of; well it's your weather today, Steve (Pile) hasn't a chance, too rough for us in the cat, and they would then shoot off into the distance and we would finish last ! Duncan Grant he has probably made millions and wisely discarded fast boats ... (and yes I remember the jacket too !) Also recall John Clarke calling Margate something like the toilet seat of the UK ! Graham; Blufin's blunder was rather freudian !
