Raceboat Returns

At a lavish launch party in the Rownhams Service Station car park on the outskirts of Southampton, a small group of enthusiasts gathered in a Fiat Cinquecento S to toast the relaunch of Raceboat International - www.raceboatinternational.com - Initially it will be a website jobby but hard copy will follow. It will be dedicated solely to powerboat racing and feature all the old favourite including Pastimes dedicated to Field Marshall Mike Lloyd.

Field Marshall Mike Lloyd? I don't know what you are on Sergeant Sewell but whatever it is I want some of it!

Sincere congratulations on taking the plunge and getting this mag up and going. Just keep dishing the gossip - and there's loads of it available - it's just what we need.

Great web site JM. Excellent work as usual.

Many thanks for the offer Gordon I recall Cowes some years back that 29' with it's diesel engine was a very nice boat, went well and seemed to ride very nicely but I'm sure your monster is a whole new ballpark

Let's revive the Cruiser class

Can some forward thinking person with connections in the right places suggest reviving the Cruiser division. We need those 'Gentlemen' racers like Tony Davis, Micheal Lloyd and Jeffers Hunton to bring back a bit of dignity into the sport. Even those 'Young Guns' of yesteryear might feel like returning as the thought of a big 'straight six' diesel thumping in the bilges can be quite therapeutic.

You have been out of the sport too long young Geriatric. We have got Cruisers racing. If you remember those Cruisers that were successful ended up as Sports Cruisers because everything and anything else broke up which I remember to my cost! So, now you have boats with accommodation like that funny looking boat that the Scots ran in RB08 which did so well, there’s the Scorpion RIB’s that also ran as Cruisers in the RB08 and at the last two Cowes races (with one coming fourth last year), we even had a Revenger 25 which used to sleep two running in the RB08 and it looks as though you are going to have several “other boats” at least able to have overnight accommodation fitted for three or four running at Cowes. Also, don't forget Miss Daisy and Gee.

Certainly the Ring 34 that we will be racing at Cowes has been designed so that Mike can use it for weekend runs across the Channel for lunch or dinner in France and will end up with 2 x 6ft berths in the bow plus two 6ft berths in the main cabin plus galley and sink, but only after the CTC.

So Cruiser Racing is back with us but under different names, this time round however they are bigger, faster and stronger than those that raced in the 80’s and 90’s. The old saying comes true; racing improves the breed which is what Sir Max wanted to happen from the very beginning!

What we could do with is for you to pull some strings at Sunseeker and for them to resurrect the XPS34 - remember Minster Heatwave and the Griffiths Everest ???, now they were great Cruiser/Racers and we now have a class for them in Marathon!
ML.
