As the USA recession still bites there are some great opportunity's for those that want to splash the cash for a CTC boat and a bit of leisure boating
thought these interesting ...
Cigarette 42 Revolution powered by a pair of Big Blocks with #6 Drives $65K
1991 Wellcraft Scarab 43' no engines or drives bargin $15K
1993
Cigarette 38' Top Gun no power or drives another bargain $28K

They are all scattered around the US of A, have come across quite a few more
pity we don't have a pool of go fast hulls and boats over here at these sort of prices, would be so great if instead of a car lot we had a collection of these to look over in a very big lot ... recon the CTC and endurance entrants list would go up quite considerably
here we go ship the whole lot to the Channel islands where they pay no import taxes and sell em on from their ... that's my non bright idea for the day

Don't know if this is sort of almost within the rules or not but say someone purchased a cheap USA go fast machine, import it to the Channel islands no tax and register it for powerboat racing then brink it to UK for the endurance series and take it back to the Channel isles at season end and so on the following year, I am sure no tax is payable if it is used for racing then whipped back across to the C. I. although this may not be in the spirit of the law it deprives greedy Gordon of his tax

You should be ok doing that as the boat will be guernsey reg, and it would save thousands. I'm importing one soon for me, looking between 24 and28ft for pleasure and racing use, it's got to be something special though with big horse power to make it worth it for me though.

Definitely looks like a good way to get a cheap boat! My brother's importing a hot rod from California at the moment, you get charged 10% of the total value as import duty (that's on a car, I'm guessing boats are the same). By doing a 'ship through' the UK you avoid VAT, although if that boat is then sold on to someone in the UK the VAT is then charged, which sucks! Cfun's idea of using Guernsey as a base for a race boat would probably work, but the cost of shipping backwards and forwards for racing would probably soon overtake the cost of the taxes! Condor ferries are extortionate

Honey Party was (I believe) on a temporary import from the States and returned thee after the P1 season.

A friend of mine brings a boat or two in a year, he tends to do it with an agent who goes to auctions, apparently the £:$ has made it less profitable but he gets them trailered onto a ferry and pays the duty/VAT when they arrive

I've just noticed and possibly answered my own question
what I could not understand was the boat in the pic talks of petrol and the Uk race boat had Sabre diesel engines as per Double 2 shirts
however looking at the pic on the engine cover is a Sabre sticker so this is the very same boat that raced in the UK CTC back in 84 or 85 but who raced it back then and did it travel all the way from the US just to do the CTC

For those interested found this from a USA thread with our very own UK boating mastermind explaining all ...
Posted by Mild Thunder USA
This is my buddies boat. not comparable speed wise to say an older cougar or ocean express, but this boat handles rough water better than a 38 V bottom cigarette in my opinion with similiar speeds. Very stable. Solid as a rock.
I actually got a email today from a guy who ran this particular boat in the Round Britain race in 1984. He also agreed of its rough water handling. He also noted that they were unable to finish the race because during the second leg, they busted a motor mount due to the water conditions. Boat originally had 600HP sabre diesels and ASD surface drives.
The one Mark Mcmanus re-rigged with 800SC mercs and 3A's was a low to mid 80 mph boat and that was a full pleasure version and plain old fiberglass, so Im sure it was quite a bit heavier than this one being kevlar and a race layup. I'd like to see how this one would run with some 800-900HP mills....
Most refer to the 39 aronow cats as Blue Blunders, pigs, etc. But they really arent a bad boat, just not really a true cat, nor a true V. I always liked the gigantic molded in swim platforms on his along with the huge rear deck area.
And posted by our very own Flying Fish
1984 Aronow Cat
That Round Britain boat virtually fell apart. The owner Sherman Whitmore was so incensed by it`s failure, that he wanted a letter highlighting the horrors to be sent to Aronow, but it never happened.Willie Meyers also crewed the boat.
When FF says this is he perhaps referring to engine/boat mount problem

I remember talking to Willie Meyers and looking at the boat, about the way the Sabre's engine's were fitted, the longitudinal stringers were not all tied together across the boat, with steel frames, so the engines just pushed and pulled side ways till the stringers collaspsed and came off the bottom.
The engines were fitted in the USA.

Couple of cheap engine-less cats from the US liquidators
$8,800 for this 32' - 1999 Puma Supercat Light
$11,900 for this 32' - 1984 Cougar Tunnel cat
And amazingly in the price they both have trailers
