Blimey, I don't think i went above 4 knots taking you from the harbour to the wall in herm!
Don't think i broke it then, i was too busy leaving you (and everyone else!) standing in the rough to notice that day, probably contributed to some of the breaks!
It was indeed signed off by revenger i believe, but i don't think it was as simple as that. To be honest i simply don't know the details. It was none the less built illegally initially, and not to a standard anywhere near that of a 'proper' revenger. I'm sure Jon Rowe over here, or Motorvator on the forum could show/tell you what they should look like!
Anyhoo, I'm gonna ask now that we all move on from this subject. I don't really care about the history of her, or whether i got a good deal. I just care about having a good time getting it sorted and posting the progress on here.
I've got the afternoon off tomorrow to work on her and I've got butterflies I'm so excited about getting that bit closer to glassing it all back in!
Can't wait to Join you and everyone else out there later this year Simon
James

Thanks! Just how I feel! It's not Russ's fault for selling it to me though, he didn't know.
As you say, I'm sure that once i knew the problems though, i wouldn't have got much for it!!

I'm not aware thet it had 20 years of racing etc. It certainly did a few seasons, but didn't actually achieve that much.

The story, as I remember it, was that Trio's did the dirty on Revenger, and built a boat for Pete Berrow on the sly. You can't really blame Pete for that, we all like a bargain. When Revenger, (Sloggit) found out about it, I'm told that his main concern was that it had been a cash job, and he insisted that the VAT was paid!
I don't suppose he ever really approved of it, but I think he was more concerned about his Hull being stolen by BWM ribs at the time.
Funnily enough, I was contacted today by a guy who has my old 26 that raced against your Revenger in 97. I swapped the boat for an outboard years ago to someone who mullered it to fit a V12 Lambo in it, at the time I reckoned the boat had zero value. (a little bit more than your revenger)
The new owner sent me some photo's today, and it looks pretty good to me, so I reckon with some hard graft and a bit of time the old Revenger could look half as good!

Huh! What are the chances of that eh! Thanks for filling me in on the story, good to hear a 3rd party view!
I'm looking at doing yellow and black for the revenger too at the moment, yellow cos i love it, and black cos it's easy to get seats that colour!
Good to see that someone else is saving old racers, I rekon it'll be a great boat when it's done, definately an amazing ride compared to anything else I've been in!

Back on subject...
Managed to get the afternoon off to work on the boat today. Did a lot of tidying first though, hence not masses of progress!
Got all the remaining balsa out from the engine bay. This is the first area I've found where I can really show the extent of the delamination. I expected the delaminated layer to be the one going over the balsa, and therefore expected to be able to just lift off the remaining strips between the stringers and balsa to reveal good glass. Sadly though the layers under the balsa have gone too as I found out...
First pic shows down between the layers before I started cutting, from seeing this i knew it was gonna be bad!
Second pic shows the square I cut out as a tester to see exactly what was going on and how far down/deep it went...
Third pic is a close up to show just how wet and oily it was in there, no wonder the balsa was so soaked!

Given the thickness and size of the affected area, I decided to continue carefully cutting it out rather than sanding, trying not to go right through the hull this time!
Seems that the movement of the engine, combined with the fact the stringers weren't bedded in anything, or even touching the hull, has resulted in them pulling their restraining glass away from the hull. I wonder if this had happened before and that was why they were so well glassed in compared to under the floors. My guess is that they started to come loose, so were just glassed over big time to hold em in place, rather than cutting out the original delamination. Who knows!
Anyhoo... First pic shows the bit I ended up cutting out. The oil stain shows how big the main area of delamination was.
Second pic shows both sides done
Third pic shows roughly where I ended today. I've now removed all of the remaining bits of the bulkhead that cen be seen in the photo too, but forgot to take a pic!
Tomorrow, first job is to get it all supported in shape with the scaffold boards i was kindly lent today (By Prime Scaffolding - Blatently the best firm on the island!) Then i can get the central longit out, those two little stringers at the back out, then it's on to stage 2, sanding and feathering it all back!! Woo hoo!!

Saturday's progress...
Got the whole day free yesterday and I'm really pleased with what I got done!
More on that later though, first thing i did was get her properly supported with the scafffold boards. Main areas I felt needed support were the bottom of the V, the strakes which contain the stringers, and the chines. Looks like it was easy to do, but this took me a while to get perfect so each support had just the right pressure, at just the right height and angle! It's not easy to shift a 25ft boat around on your own!
All the lines eye up nicely now though, she's actually a lot straighter than she was when i got her up there!

Rest of the structures out...
Now it was supported I could get the longit out from the centre and the little outer ones at the stern. I'd left these in (mainly the middle one) so it didn't break when I lifted it onto the support.
The weight difference is massive now I've cut all the old wood out, I'#ve got it in the back of my work van which will take 1 ton, and it looks close to it's limit! My engine crane struggled to lift the hull originally, i can lift the front by hand now!
Pic one just shows there was nothing under the outer longits again...
Pic two shows the same story under the main central longit, only this time there was shed loads of water/oil emulsion. Nice!
It's a bit tricky to see this pic properly, the hole the board came from is on the left, and the board is on end next to it on the right to show the end that came out of the hole.

All the wood and structures out at last!!!!
FINALLY!!!
Finished getting all the wood and structure out of the boat yesterday! God was I pleased! All that's left now is the bulkhead right up in the bow, but that should be fairly easy.
Most important thing is that all the rotten gash-ass ply and balsa is finally out of the hull, every last fecking bit of it. Now it's on to the sanding & feathering next time i get up there!
Took quite a few photos of how it ended up last night, I was a little pleased with myself! Feels like I've reached a major milestone!

Ha ha, I'd love to do this for a living, but there's no way i could live in the UK, like it over here too much! Shame there's not enough of a powerboating scene to support it as a job here really!
