Rib Racing / Challenges

Hi,

Does anyone have info on getting involved in rib racing and /or challenges in the U.K.
Are there any clubs or leagues etc....

Andre.

Hi Andre
Give me a call sometime and can fill you in with the current racing scene as it is.

Nothing as such for RIBs these days - but very easy to fit in with the Marathon classes for longer distance / larger craft.

Best regards
Adam

As Adam says nothing RIB specific here at the moment - I'm away until a week Monday (14th) - give me a call if you want a chat then. The RYA website will have a calendar up for next season at some point but it isn't very reliable and dates are slow getting agreed.

A real shame that how RIB racing was allowed to develop and die.

Ultimately I think they were allowed to go too far down the race RIB route. Stepped hulls are fine - part of boating now. But race deck specials changed RIB racing and meant race specific boats and then the classes were too similar to class 3.

I think the RIB racing should have been side by side seating and boats capable of seating at least four. Perhaps then people could have still raced their fast leisure RIBs. Also events could have included different types of races, including some cruising legs etc.

But in the end it merged into general racing and costs went higher and higher.......
