Screen on p18

Hi all did Mr Baker ever give the p18 an integral screen ?
Always thought the p16 & p18 stayed with the screw on type .

No and we have the moulds!

The other deck was done after as an optional choice by phantom UK once they bought the moulds from Steve baker. The original deck was always available.

That's interesting,i broke my screen of my P18 (i stood on it) and decided to replace it with a fully molded in one,i was going to knock a plug up but as you have one made how much would you want for a basic component ?,the boats getting remodeled and will need a full respray so color and finish are unimportant.

I'm not it any great rush i have another P18 im working on at present.

Both the 16-18 have been splashed over in Europe. I have in the past seen both decks with the screen moulded in

You may well be right. Ive seen 1 or 2 for sale here over the years and about half a dozen abroad.

We have the original Steve Baker official moulds and the rights belong to my customer - If you want a separate screen I can ask about a price.

Thanks Cookee but i can get a screen already,although im not sure how your customers rights are involved with me making a one off mold for a splash screen.

Just change it slightly,ie heavier/lighter and it won't be a splash(apparently ). Or buy one of the man who sells them

Why would you make a mould to make one screen ? Just buy one off cookie it would be cheaper !

Flipping lot of work , you have got to ask yourself is it worth it , I personally don't think so .

Correct and its pretty straightforward,take the old screen and bond it to a piece of shuttering ply,fill in any holes and smooth to shape desired,for the female use a bit of 18g for the first layer then an old bed sheet (saves wasting GF) then box it to stop flex,i wont use gelcoat in the female as it will only be used once,polish and wax then lay up as normal,iv made a few molds like this for different (non boat) projects,and this is what i thought Cookee had done when i first read the topic.

total cost around £30 and a few hours work.

it sounds straight forward but when you fit a 18 screen it flexes as you screw it on, if you just make a mould using a screen thats not fitted and then make it more like a fully moulded one (a lot stiffer) it might not fit, also your still going to have to screw it on, what you need to do is up date the deck but not like that ugly one phantom boats made, personally i would use an old deck to make the plug, moulded in screen smaller transom well and a bit rounder,

I wondered about that and figured i could build that in to the mold,also im not going to screw it,im going to glass it in,the rear well is being largly removed as is the rear seating area,i plan on installing an inboard and jet unit,iv found several units that fit in the transom area and the hull should take low engine beds,a dry sump will keep the powerplant and CoG down,i have another project im working on at present so this boat is really still in the planning stage.

It would appear im not the first to attempt this,i just found this beauty on your forum.

Don't take this the wrong way Shaun , but I really think its a lot more work than just a few hours , I think it's more like a few weeks
