Shame to see them rotting

Went to Littlehampton Marina today, first visit for a few years. Saw Cliff Smith's old cat Tub Humping Sadly rotting away in a compound, no covers on it canopys and hatches open, shame. Also next to it a Cougar, same state-rotting away, wasn't sure of the size, I think it was a 38, couldn't see if it had drives or motors in it though.
I remembered that a couple of years ago I saw Ultimatum Number 500 (ex Shand Kydd Magnum Marine - Don Aronow) in another yard next door. It had been outside rotting away for years and years but still had the drive and motor in it at that time, the whole boat appeared to be in a bad way. However, it wasn't there today - wondered if anyone has bought it and is doing a restoration on it?

ULTIMATUM 500 was lying at Hillyards in Littlehampton few years ago, the owner want something like 15k for her.
As you say originally raced by Bill Shand-Kydd, it sank once, in the '70 Bollinger Goblet it ejected James Manclarke who lost great chinks out of his leg on one of the cleats!!!
The only person could make 500 work was Bill, she was lethal in anything over a 3.
Tony D found her and reserected her but fitted her I the redundant grey cells are working with twin OMC clip ons.
It never realy worked.
Would make a great project to restore to its original race set up, but not if your over 5'10" when she stands on her arse or nose dives it sure makes your eyes water!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Think it was the most lethal boat I ever ran..

When Tony Dowley ran it in 1996 in Touring class, it had a 'second effort' OMC big block set up in it, with inboard transmission on, I think, a modified King Cobra drive.
I think it only showed for the first (Gosport) race of that year, but Ben would know for sure.

Not really, I only remember because he was in 'our' class, so we were keeping an eye on it.

They retired from that race, as did all the other 8 entries in class, leaving it pretty easy for us. though we were leading in a fairly 'convincing' way from the start anyway....Happy days.

Ultimatum

15K !!!!!!!! He was having a laugh, when i saw it at Hillyards it was a complete wreck. Everything had been stripped off the boat inside and out the only thing left was the engine and drive (which didn't look all that) -Trailer was a dustbin job. JF is correct it had a Big Block in it and a King Cobra Drive.

J F I was refering not just to this post but all the other posts on here, your knowledge is universal and helping us all with the rules and interpretation of them for he RBR is exceptional.
I only met one person with more knowledge..Terry Herring........The difference here is that you freely offer it, where as you havr to ask for the info, it is never forth coming and caused an awful lot of rule rangling when with UKOBA !!
What does amaze me tho is what short memories people have on here for the problems ( perseived or real ) when it comes to the faceless, chinlis freeloaders who run the sport and only come out for the !do's" and big events and realy have know idea of what powerbaoting is..
You have all been dissing the new chairman of the ORC, I do not know the gentleman but why do the clubs put people forward??? because the members realy don't want or have the time to support their own clubs..
This is an exact re run of 97 when UKOBA committee where wanted out, but when it came to the meeting to do what EVERYONE signed up for not one person had the guts to stand up and back their signatures.
Unfortunately the realy great people who organise and give body and soul get such a slating they bugger off.
So back this guy as chairman or all stand to-gether and say no...
They can't work if you all for once stand up and be counted..
Appologies for going on but you never give people a chance OR find out the truth

I remember that situation well! And I remember the look on your face, when if I recal correctly, there were a half dozen or so 'characters' that had agreed to stand shoulder to sholder (with you) at the critical moment, but their arses 'stayed put' on their chairs when you stood to 'go for it'!

We were just on our way out of racing at that point....and Poker Runs were beckoning.

Actually it was quite scary standing up to them with no support !!!
Problem was when I eventually got to the truth behind the waste and misuse the trouser lifting and funny handshakes started and the 3 culprits won over..........worries me some are trying to muscle into the RBR............
