Solent Boat Blaze.

Im surprised that noone has mentioned this yet!

On Monday a brand new Meridian 341 Sedan was destroyed in a fireball as it left Southampton water on its maiden voyage. The two owners abandoned the stricken boat just of Calshot beach and escaped in the ships liferaft. The boat drifted on to a shinglebank just off the beach and burnt down to water level. The crew were rescued by the Calshot RNLI Station and were transported to a nearby waiting ambulance that took them to the Southampton general hospital, where they were then treated for burns.

The men had just taken delivery of the new boat and were making their way to their home in Rye, Sussex, when they spotted blue smoke pouring from the exhaust. The boat then caught light and they had no time to raise an alarm before abandoning ship.

My money says failed cooling (or stop cock closed), resulting in exhaust rubber steam hose fire.

sounds about right but surely low water, overheat, exhaust sensor alarms, more to this!

with the cocks close i think the low water flow alarm would go off straight away, you've got to be pretty numb for the shoulders up not to pay attention to that, i listen for every type of noise when i'm in a boat, even when asleep and i here a change, i'm up

I put my money on the stop cocks being closed too.
