They banned my 200xs from racing with XR2's!!

Last night at a Bermuda Power Boat Association AGM they banned my 200xs from running in class with XR2's and told me I would have to race against the Merc 280's. And the main protestors who is here on BM Forums said he don't care if Mercury made my motor to replace the XR2 (which he has),this is Bermuda rules.

Xr2 v 200xs v 280efi

To be fair a 200xs on a b23 should beat an xr2 all day long but the 280 efi is going to leave you easy by a much bigger margin, sounds like your screwed !

i would question that decision as an xs under uim rules has a weight penalty and a rev limiter to contend with

To be fair the later XS's are well over 200hp and I never heard of a straight XR2 making over 190 let alone 200 on a dyno. Would I be correct in saying you are much quicker than the XR2 boats?

How many and much longer are the Xr2 going to be there and what happens when they do break them and they then get an Xs that means they will all have to race 280s
Something or someone has to give here and maybe he should be handicapped to then stay in his group be it a points handicap or time, just my thought;-) good luck with it mate

If you're all running B23s then propose you run with extra weight as per the old UIM 3C rules (before the canopy rule). Or sell the 200xs powerhead to Europe and get a drop on 280

xr2 v xs

when the worlds was last in guernsey, roy smiths b23 with an xr2 beat all the xs boats ,including mine,to win worlds,so just because you have an xs does not mean you are going to go faster

I'm guessing here but I would think its flat for most of their races , if so xs would have an advantage.

A few years ago, I had the misfortune of coming across 2 p 21's both with 200xs's, they whooped my arse! The run from calshot to Southampton they where 50 yards in front,back to calshot, they where 100-150 yards in front.lesson learnt.no replacement for displacement.

The b23's with 280's here are NOT much faster than my 200xs...i would say about 3mph and i still have to work on my set-up a bit more since im only raced the boat 3 times and tested twice other than racing. So there is still plenty more room for improvement! But is it right to judge my boat by the speeds it does vs the mercury technical specs? I feel if anyone wants to complain about the performance of the 200xs they should take that up with Mercury Racing...they made the motor to replace the XR2's!!! But i doubt they would do that because Mercury may just tell them they dont have to buy their products...Lol!

As Renegade mentioned "Penalized for moving forward!"

something is not right ,with an xs the best i got was 84mph,yet the same setup with a 280 we got 95mph,so there is a BIG difference between a xs and a 280 and a much smaller difference between a xs and a xr2

With the greatest respect I am not sure that you are correct. I spent many hours testing the B23 with Mr Smith all the way from his first in '98 until his retirement and whilst top speed was always something that was considered handling and balance was always a priority. In short I do not recall ever going faster than 75ish in Mr Smiths B23 in a genuine race situation. So in short xr2 75ish opti 80 plus and 2.5 90 plus but none of it matters if the boats aren't set up right.

Please note that this post is in no way intended to be a slight to any racer all of whom I have the up most respect for it is purely my thoughts based on the experiences that I have had.

I shall now duck for cover.

Toby is spot on...its no good having a top speed of 80 plus if you cant hang on to it for an hour and a half or so......its all about handling , balance and a high average speed during the whole race., whatever the conditions throw at you.....
