Tips for racing??

Anyone know of any ideas on how to try and beat a boat that runs smooth on flat?? I have a phantom and I can beat this boat in the rough hands down its just smooth water they have the advantage. Anything I can do to make the boat run just as good if not better in the calm but not loose any benefits in the rough?

Round the Island, A Class?
I'd stay in the rough! Or put some lead under his floor when he's not looking!
