Trident

The sad news is that the National Motorboat Museum is definitely to close and the collection broken up. It seems such a shame as the cost of running the Museum is only around £100 grand per year including staff. Surely a local authority with powerboating links would find this an inexpensive attraction to take on. Alternatively would not one of the old sponsors such as the cigarette companies or even the Express newspaper owners take it on. If any of you have any influence get to work time is short.
I donated Trident and a little 17ft Tremlett (Nymph 0) that I need to find storage (let me know if can help) for when they are returned.
Tridents hull is completely restored and just requires engines to make her a potential historic contender. I am not in a position to finance this at present but anyone interested in a collaboration e.g you supply the engines I supply the boat. Or any other suggestions as how to put her on the starting line for next would be appreciated.
I have a history of Trident and a lot of pic's I will try and post here. "Bus Pass" I know you were interested PM me and I will send them to you.

The Greed Made It Impossible

I made a concerted effort two years ago to find a location in Poole for a powerboat museum and the council expressed a lot of enthusiam as they were on the brink of putting considerable funds into a gigantic strange stainless steel monument overlooking the harbour (a bit like the angel of the north)They eventually decided against the monument and thought a powerboat museum would be very apt for Poole as suggested I meet up with developers on the quay who had several retail outlet vacant with little hope of filling. We got quite excited about the plan until the developers started talking about the rent they would want and the council then chipped in with the rates which scuppered our plans as you can't charge entry into museums. There must be a tourism department in some council who can see the potential in an attraction of this nature.

Yes the little Tremlett is only 17ft has a very rare 115hp V4GT short shaft Johnson on the back built by them for competition.

if I can remember correctly, the Tremlett agent in Belfast had a Tremlett with one of these Johnsons on the back, it would have been around 1969>71 ish, amott would that be the correct years for this engine?? it had a great sound from it, think the exhaust was above water or semi ??? His Tremlett was called " Stromletto" ??? again if I can remember correctly.........think he race it at the IoM once or twice, again a long time ago

talking about the IoM/Tremletts
