Another bloody...Hot Omelette!
Before ABO there was this boat that I know exactly the specifications. Shead design? Planatec? Surely was in fiberglass and Bobby Buchanan was the owner-driver.
Hot Omelette was the first offshore that I saw in my first offshore experience.
Before the race Viareggio-Bastia-Viareggio in 1973 Hot Omelette made a lot of test in that waters the beaches of which was full of people on holiday. It roared very close to the shoreline and alls in the beaches can saw very well the name: "Hot Omelette, the yellow red boat"! they said standing to look impressed.
I'm affectionate to this boat a lot.

Anyone can say what was the spec of it? Shead design? Lenght ?
Builder?

Hot Omelette was Bobby Buchanan Michealson's earlier boat to be replaced by ABO, "Another Bloody Omelette". This boat delaminated racing in South America, (possibly Rio De La Plata), and sank so Planatec built another which later became Macho driven by Jack Cunningham and was then owned by the Fletchers who won several class 2 world championships with it, variously known as Follet Cars etc. TAs far as I remember the hull that delaminated was brought back to the UK and was turned into a cruiser owned by Tim Powell called Breathless which was a copy of a Dutch low volume production boat called a Cammenga Cobra also designed by Don Shead. Breathless ran a couple of times at Cowes as a cruiser. Spent loads of time aboard her aged about 15 she was my dream cruiser. Will try to find some pics ...
The only boat I really lost track of was the GRP Uno Embassy, as Blufin said it was not as fast as the old tin boats so wasn't used much.
The ad from Motor Boat and Yachting for the old Uno was from a guy who's name escapes me at the moment at a company called Source at Bournemouth airport, he has a whole collection of boats, probably still got Uno as I doubt that anyone would have brought it.

I have been told that when it delaminated, it was being used by Doxford. Could explain why TP ended up with it. At the end of the day he was their insurance broker/name at Lloyds etc etc.

When Hot Omelette delaminated? In 1974-5-6?

I think first HO was a Tiger Shark, Think it was the same hull as reg Haynes, but reg had a diferent topside. There was a cruiser version as well "Lady B" which raced but that might have been a 32' that run in the London- Monte Carlo

As this thread started out under the title of something to do with turbines, if I remember correctly was the early 70´s racer Passing Cloud also a Tiger Shark hull powered by a gas turbine or two??

Aha! Answered my own question! Got the Cowes 74 programme out and found this! Looks identical I would say to the Hot Omelette hull.

Its the space i need.
I did spot someone on here as a boat builder here in Teignmouth. does anyone know who i mean? i cant find them again.

I think the cost of re installing those V8's could be quite huge and would never be recouped.
If anyone is in Devon and can store her for me(for a fee of course) whilst i do the work please let me know.

Oh and the colour of Miss enfield 2 is very nice indeed. Couldnt run here in LPW colours as that was dads livery and it would be my turn now!
