Twins vs single motors

Just a question i was asking myself.
What are the advantages/ disadvantages of twin motors or singles and why twins these days.I can understand i years gone by when motors were not pushing so much hp out so a couple or 3 were required but now we get to 400hp single surely the gain must be in a single set up with less weight .
I am sure there will be a lot of different views on this .
Cheers

I'm no expert but I think the biggest gain with running a twin setup has to be the handling with the 2 props counter rotating against each other and eliminating possible prop torque with a single setup, as you said, you can now bolt on up to a 400 on a boat like yours, there is a guy in Norway with a P25 running a 400r which previously ran as a double setup at sometime during its life, he posted on here with various results with engine heights & props etc. with the 400r with very good results in all areas.

Twins vs single

Thanks for the info very informative .But i do think that sounds like a set up for glass flat water in a bang straight line .It looks like a single engine definitely quicker under these conditions. But what in real sea conditions is there any advantage of twins .When you think twice the cost ish twice the fuel just double everything except hull.

your P25 with a single 300 will be just as fast and easy to handle if setup right as it is with your twins, will also be a lot less hassle to maintain and cheaper to run however they don't look or sound as cool

Did not manage to test this Activator yet that we rigged fall 2018. Looking forward to the test together with the owner. First and only Swede built Activator with twin setup. Activator 28OR Seamless.

I hope so. Then the owner can use the 350 litre ballast tank more frequently

It has also A built in 450 litre gas tank placed in center of the boat.
