Ukoba

Just been looking around their website, and I'm pleased to see that after a long dormant period thing are starting to happen.

There's some interesting items, info etc, together with some details about forthcoming events.

Bit worrying to see that the The 2009 South Coast Marathon Offshore Powerboat Race has Tony Fiddy as Event Director, wonder how long till he drops the ball on that one! His past record doesn't exactly inspire confidence....

Some of my old stories are best left for another day Barry, I suspect that when my son publishes them, we will be long gone.

But hopefully he will have the 2008 RB Race Memoirs available in PDF form for everyone late February, from what I have seen - it's looking good.

Lets Finally Put the Record Straight

Gentlemen,
For the avoidance of doubt and with a view to curtailing the roomer mongering, the talking behind peoples back, the snide comments and the general bitchiness that seems to emanate from every pour of the racing and ex-racing community here is the following Announcement:

When I bought Double 2 Shirts from Peter Moore I received more offers of help than I care to mention, all of which were gratefully accepted. Indeed I was touched by the way folk I didn’t even know offered their time, technical advice etc. As everybody on here knows my knowledge of all matters boating is limited to 9/10ths of 4/5ths of F**K All

With the exception of John (Blufin), Tony Davis, Graham (Splitpin) and Graham (Flying Fish for providing the drawings of her) there has been a distinct case of NO SHOW....

I’ve even asked the "Great and Good" for a price to Rig the boat but didn’t get the courtesy of a reply... perhaps because it wasn’t a Phantom..

Gentlemen, You pontificate from the comfort of your warm armchairs on saving the historic race boats from being lost forever, hunting out and securing for future generations our winning past, commenting on whether she should be "ABO" or "Double 2 Shirts" to be historically correct in the jeaneries of restoration to an original condition, but what do you do about it? Simple question, which indeed generates an even simpler answer "Nothing"

Splitpin came to Southampton from Dartford at his own cost By Train to offer his help - not many chaps like Graham around is there?

So If Somebody offers their help, appears genuine, and is honestly interested in getting her back onto the water then he or she is a better man or woman than those of you who preach and do F**K All.

You all know I haven’t got a big budget and am trying to do the best I can, She will be back on the water this year and will compete against those of you who have race boats rather than the Commodes in front of your computer screens.

It might pay some of you to look for the good in people rather than anything else...

Martin,

I don't pontificate from the comfort of my cold desk chair.

I just think that with the budget that you have it will be tough.

I speak on a regular basis to a guy that used to race that boat, back in the 70's it cost £150,000 per annum

Great project - but be real.
