i have had stuff sent by a few different things sent by different companies and never had a problem until it lands in the UK............. then the crap starts as ever.
US mail seemed to have the cheapest rate, but not much difference between fedex, ups etc.
Good luck.
Paul

Depends what your sending. Just a cylinder head, USPS will be cheapest.

Whole motor I use Phoenix International for all that stuff. Very well priced.

USPS is always the cheapest (and slowest) but the biggest problem I've found is that the sellers are reluctant to use it due to the amount of paperwork involved.

If it's a private sale then you can normally get the seller to use them, but most companies use the services of a courier such as Fedex or similar, as it's so much simpler, and they collect on a regular basis.

Not sure if this is what your looking for.

USPS (post office) is definitely the cheapest (USPS lost $5.1 billion last year) however if you want something sent with insurance to outside the US a lot of times it must be upgraded to Priority mail and this can cost twice as much as regular mail plus the insurable amount charge. I would first get a price with USPS with insurance then check with UPS and Fed Ex. USPS is the easiest paper work wise.

I've had a mixed bag - I find it's just luck of the draw and also a lot down to the seller with declared values and how efficiently they pack the items.

Some sellers will put the trade value down rather than the sale value. If it's a used ebay item, those can be a bit more flexible on the declarations and valuations - but new stuff - the heads I had shipped over from AFR for example - if they went walkies or got damaged, I certainly didn't want to be $$$$'s out of pocket!

In the old days, USPS surface mail was by far the cheapest if you were patient and didn't sometimes mind it arriving a bit damp. These days (surface no longer available), as Mike says, I find USPS to often be similar to with UPS and DHL also if you compare on a like for like basis inc insurance, so I tend to try and use whichever one has a more convenient UK depot for me to go and pick it up. I like that UPS will ship you the item and let you pay the duties later, wherease parcelforce you have to pay up front before they'll deliver, which can cause delays.

It was collected last Friday and have just been notified that it is in Exeter depot out for delivery today.
I am very impressed (providing it actually turns up) and I think it was cheap enough !!

I really dislike USPS, had somthing sent with them only lo find they used fed ex as a carior and then listed as delivered on the web tracking, never found the. Item it was then returened after a long proses after I just found out where it was and lost out on postage fee.
