Valued opinions please
I have a Fletcher Arrowbeau (17 foot) with 165 Mercruiser, which I suspect is going to start getting expensive, so looking to offload it and replace with a Phantom 16, hopefully with about 90hp outboard.
is there anything to be wary of with these boats?

I don't think there are any particular issues to look out for with the 16.
Just out of interest, what are you intending to use it for most of the time?

use
Mostly waterskiing, towing inflatables etc - inland waterway (Loch Lomond) with possibly an occasional excursion out the Forth and up the Fife coast

The 16ft is a great boat and very forgiving in the rough. A 90hp tohatsu or yam will be ideal. Set up right should average around 55mph. Ideal for waterskiing and fast pleasure cruising.

I had a P16 3 years ago. Ran a 135hp Blackmax, did 59mph and the acceleration was amazing, but the thing was a death trap - scared the life out of me not to mention any passengers! It was pretty harsh ride and needed loads of padding in the seats! Have you looked at the Ring 16?

I haven't looked closely at either yet, I take that as a recommendation?

If you using it on the flat, then it's a great boat, I just found it to be very uncomfortable in the chop. More of a racing hull than pleasure ...

I saw a Ring 16 and the hull looked a lot deeper, just a thought .. might be a little more comfortable that a P and probably cheaper ...

My P18exl can be a harsh ride too and I am thinking about gettin new seats with more padding, adding better footrests and handholds for passengers.
My Ring 16 was a softer ride, more of a pleasure boat, but it had a smaller, lighter, slower engine to consider.
But... Taz has a P20 (roughly the same length as mine but a little older), he's driven both and he says his lands much softer in the rough.

I was gonna mention the 'different shaped hull' but I knew you'd say it better than I could.

We still have a P16 from new had 90HP Yam on the back approx 54mph handling was great. Then a inline 6 merc 115HP "tower of power" was like an f1 car handing frightening if you like that sort of thing, but kept breaking down. Now have a 100HP suzuki v4 on it. Handling is good not scary does about 55mph the differance with the suzuki and the yam the yam rode slightly better the bow rode higher but the suzuki is better for wakeboarding and general alround use.
Hope that helps.
