Launching down stream of tower bridge
Does anyone know of a good place to launch other than Putney. If I could launch somewhere near Southend,it would be better than trolling all the way to tower bridge, then following the fleet to Southend, then trolling most of the way back to Putney.haven't looked but it's gotta be at least 100 miles,so fuel becomes an issue.were as from Southend to the tower refuel, over night in the docks,an run with the fleet until they head off "chasing the horizon" then recover my boat, appydays, sounds a better plan to me.any clues where to launch from would be good thanks.

The problem is Andy there will be no water and the estuary dries out a long way.
Check the pla tide link I have posted

Slipways her are a nightmare, what type of launch vehicle do you have?
Option 1
Shallow slipway two tree island either walk out hand launch or get the land rover very wet forget it in car unles you walk the boat in.
https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&s...m&z=16&iwloc=A
Option 2
http://www.southendjetskiclub.com/ thorpe bay launch, hard gravel will be able to launch with a landrover at that time, basically a beach launch will still get land rover wet.

Andy I'm guessing tide is not a problem if you are coming up the day before. The lock though maybe is as it is a big old lock and they don't like opening on a whim for obvious reasons. If you are going to do your own thing let me know intentions and I'll see how it fits for you.
If you wanted you could run with ourselves and Painterra and his crowd on the Thursday. The plan is for us to be passing Southend / Canvey around 10 - 10.30 putting us up there before the tide turns.
There's a couple of guys joining us from All Hallows so that's a possible slip, SS has covered the two Southend options but they not so onerous if the tide is up, Paintera would have the Canvey options.

HT at Southend on 8 June is 13.10 at 5.2 metres.
Tide at 10.30 is 3.5 metres, so not total mud.

Apologies Pain-Terra, I live about 3 miles south of you and all we have in North Kent, when the tide is out, is mud and shingle.
Having said that, I have competed in many races in Southend on Sea since 1977 and enjoyed the sand, the sea and often the sunshine, and made many lasting friends from Essex.
I think Motorvator will vouch for that.

Thanks for the feedback,my 4x4 has no tax or mot at the moment, so I think it's best if I blow it out. Might come up on Friday by DLR to have a look about.then launch from the south cost and watch from the nab tower, won't be as good coz the field will be split by then. haho I still get to see the boats and get mine wet.win win.

I'm not sure he'll be allowed out to play, some trumped up excuse about a wedding in another country or something, I think actually Sheena might be getting suspicious of the state he comes home in every time we meet anywhere near the city.

Andy, the organisers would really like to see you at Wood Wharf, so how about launching at Greenwich Yacht Club? They have offered all sorts of help so getting you in there should be easy. If you wanted to drop in lunchtime Thursday you could come straight through the lock with us or I could arrange a time on Friday.
As you said to start with the benefit is the ability to run the 37nm down river with the fleet to Southend for the fast start and then a simple run back around high tide - simples recovery.
Thinking about it, that might even be the best option for Renegade?

If anyone's looking for directions on how to get to any of the event sites ...London in particular ...we've put up details here:
http://www.ventureoffshorecup.com/venture-cup-fanzones/
We're really hoping to make this something very special so any and all support - especially attendance - is hugely appreciated by all the organisers and teams.
(did we mention there's a beer-tent?)
