What is the scariest boat you have ever been in?

For me it was Taz’s p20 with his 280 smile’in jacks motor, so over powered that you had to fight to get to 65mph it would then go crazy out of control to about 70 mph if you could keep it in a straight line it stabilised out a bit and went past 75 and above. Scared the hell out of me.

Not the scariest boat but one of the scariest trips came at the end of last summer with burty and James. We had planned on going to looe for some lunch. It was bad enough heading out the sound due to gale force winds, it was even worse when burty drove and I sat in the back. I was holding on for my life not due to speed but the waves and holes were pretty big.

Trip

Me and bob McCarthy went to the Channel Islands once, using just a compass (his) we missed guernsey by 20 miles but found Alderney ok then ran flat out in the dark to guernsey and that wasn't the scary bit, the 90 miles back to Salcombe in an easterly 6 was interesting to say the least. Back to the orignal post My p18 (not very big mid channel)

Mate of mine..... his battered (stripped out) Ring 16 with "tweaked" Yamaha 90hp, wave jumping

flat calm like a missile.... bit of chop on though and it was as controllable as a cheetah on LSD!!

18-20 years ago coming back from guernsey in a fairline Corniche. Weather had been building all week. Took 8 hours to get to Poole. Waves coming over flybridge. Air born due to big holes many times. It's not a nice feeling when a boat like that leaves the water at probably no more than 12-15 knots.

That must have been lethal went out in our shared (with brothers) p16 after a 140HP upgrade for the first time last summer it was scarier than my p20 with an XR2 (Carls old Phantom Revolution). Even my brother who drives it all the time had the utmost respect for it.

Keep the stories coming!

Smile

P16 with 260 Merc on the back was pretty radical. 84mph on first run but blew the motor.
Sims super v with 90 Yam was fun. Very lairy in a race and split it in half when it went under a wave.
Raven with merc V6 was the most fun, 100mph on the way to the pub on Windermere is great.

I've been into Beaucette in bad weather, jeez what a place. that entrance can feel mighty narrow when it's blowing.

This was a prety hairy ride
Only drove it twice because I bought it for the engine for another project.

The cat was my first fast boat experience. I was 12 yo back than. Prety scary but loved it.

Don't know about scariest

Just foolish(what's new).
Russell Williams and I had a canoe, and thought it would be a good idea to tow it behind my boat.
Russ went first being the guinea pig, told me NOT to go to fast.i only heard the word fast.so after about 2 seconds opened it up.Russ was screaming at me to slow down. I nearly broke a rib with laughter.
Anyway was my turn next,so he give me the same treatment, the canoe was clearly not up to the job and snapped in half.
Oh what fun we had back then !!

mine would have to be From littlehampton to brighton, in the Ring Ranger 25 it was fairly rough.

We erm cough nearly flipped it lol lol.

nearly cart wheeled a r20

Stuffed the p23 so hard though it was going to snap. lucky it didnt knock us out.

Had a smoke flare go off in the storage bin on my jet ski, above the fuel tank and start to melt it whilst out at sea! (did not realise how much of a close call until later in the day)

But hey, these are the exciting stories that make power boating what it is

My girlfriend's brother's 19ft Boston Whaler with a 200hp Optimax… Would only do 55mph flat out, but anything over 30-40 in a bit of chop and it'd get wildly out of shape! No seats didn't help either I used it for a couple of summers and had some wicked fun, even if the passengers didn't...
