How dare you bring my partner into this. I have never actually insulted you, only ever reacted to your persistent comments, and I have definitely never even mentioned your partner. If you weren't such a complete and utter **** I'd simply ignore you.
How you're still on this forum, (or even alive if you speak to people face to face like that) I'll never know.
I'm trying to do something constructive here but all you ever do is try your hardest to ruin things for people. When was the last time you did something constructive for the sport? Organised a race, helped someone new rig a boat, tried to make new products etc etc?
F*ck off my thread and f*ck off boatmad.

Thats a bit feckin rich aint it. Look through your own old posts. You have insulted this guy directly on several occasions (although maybe not his mrs and agreed that is a bit unnecessary!) But seriously, don't dish it out and engage if you aren’t prepared to take it!!

Oh yeah, I've DEFINATELY insulted him a few times in the past! To be honest I see that as a bit of banter, which on a general thread is fine! But to start on my other half and on a thread to do with how I make a living is a bit out of line. I wouldn't do that to him.
I really don't care how much crap he gives me the rest of the time and I'm more than happy to hand it back. I find it quite amusing really as we're both probably quite similar guys and would most likely get on well face to face!

Ahh ... Do I sense a new drinking buddy and navigator for the Revenger mind you he'd probably freeze to death over here and need defrosting after the 1st race, and he may not drink real ale ... may be he needs a new nav but then you'd probably end up all burnt with prickly heat and find it most uncomfortable in their nasty climate and with only Bud light available could be a tricky one

Daredevil has just mentioned a rather slick way of picking up water for the ballast , not exactly new, but not used over here very much.
The simplest , neatest and foolproof method of water pickup has not yet been discussed in this thread.

Having read this from the start I am confused, its not exactly rocket science to run a pick up (and) dump with the controls running through the hull. Infact my bernico already had this when I brought it 2 years ago and I have manufactured plenty prior to my purchase and since (along with cowl support brackets, wing plates, foot rests, throttles, transom plates, lifting eyes, trim actuators and indicators etc etc etc).
Out of interest, if I want to sell through the forum again (as I have previous) do the rules on trade adds still apply or is it a free for all?
Cheers
Dan

Hello Dan, ( off toppic ) i like your AVATAR !!!!
ON TOPIC,...........
either way where u gonna pick it up...do yourself a favor and dump it over board and make shure the in and out of the tank is on the top of the tank..way less posibility to fail !
Also, i have a water level gauge to see how full it is..so i dont need to guess !

Not wanting to upset anyone else, I did PM Jon some time ago before I advertised anything at all to let him know what I was doing, offering to pay the traders bit if he felt it was necessary.
At the moment I'm doing it 99% for the local guys but thought I'd put some bits up on here in case anyone else wanted something. I do plan to set up a website at some point once I've got a bit of a range going as I also plan to stock various other things for the local guys.
As i do it purely to help people out, I'm yet to actually profit in any way from anything I've ever sold to a powerboater, local or otherwise. I just want to do anything I can to see the sport grow.
Once I'm actually making more of a business from it no doubt Jon will ask me to pay up and become a proper trader, which I'll be more than happy to do
Hope that clears things?
Cheers, James

The Trim tab pick up was used on Debenhams (and many others)
Still personally prefer the combined pick up & dump scoop/valve myself.

I think think this could run and run an i think it just boils down to personal preference. maybe people have tried some ways and didnt get on. I found the pick up and dump one leaked. so it put me off. also dont like the idea of drilling a hole at the bottom of the trsnsom. having said that my p18 had a scupperer valve and i used to empty my bow tank via a 2" valve into the bilge and it emptied almost instantly but i would not leave the boat in the water over night. my point being its what ever you prefer.
I personally like pick up and pump out still.

All that cables and scoop stuff is SO crude.

Having never seen a tab pickup in detail, am I right in assuming that it would just be a very short pickup through the tab, with the idea that when the tab is down (due to needing to bring the bow down) it picks up water, then when the tab is raised it drains again?
I used to use my tabs purely to offset prop torque (something I hope to achieve with better setup now) and most small boats don't run tabs, hance why I was looking at other options.
I'd still be interested to hear more about the tab pickups though...
Cheers, James

james, the tab pick up....
its a pickup thru a tab.. and a hose going in the transom above waterline, then a 12V seliniod valve to open.. a pipe to the dashboard a ( saftey VALVE ) and a pipe to the top of the tank.
Dump.... a 3500 rule pump in the tank and over board with a switch in the dash next to the 12V valve !
Sofar.. no leaks, no problems. the water press force fills my ballast tank ( 26 gallons ) in 42 seconds
and the pump pumps it out in 52 seconds..
I also have a water level gauge ( mens erlyer ) that shows me how much is in the tank.
full is 150 pounds up front !
i can dump and fill anytime... even if boat is on plane , the tab pickup picks it up thru force from the water spraying off the hull ! atleast on my boat !
JF, i never said this was a new thing or i was the first to use this way...BUT ITS SAFE.. and simple ! NO LEAKING AT ALL !
No cable that can rust...nothing !!!!

Fair enough, I can see the sense in that... Personally I'd rather not have the pickup dragging through the water unless I really have to, but then I guess if the tabs are down you're not going to be doing top speed anyhoo!
James
