Would it work?
Right Guys,
I'm looking at buying a CRUSADER 16 hull it's in good nick but not clean... the engine I want to put on it is a *1995 Mercury 115hp 20inch* from my Sharp 19 (which is been worked on)
anyway would it work well... stability and handling etc?
cheer Josh

is it a tower of power or v6? (only ask as avatar says 1150 thunderbolt) 1995 V6, i second above, just make sure the transom is good.
you would have a nicer handling boat with a yam 90 and would prob be quicker.

a 1995 115hp Merc should be a 4 cyl, perhaps even the 2+2 thingy they did.

engines...
Funny you should mention the Tower of Power straight 6! as I have one of them....needs a bit of work though!!!
the other is a straight 4cyl running either a 21" pitch laser2 or a 21" pitch High 5 bit of a monster for the size of the hull though!, the transom looks good enough just thinking about the water line.... eek!
I would love to have it on my Sharp 19 but currently out of action.
want to get my hands on a Marshan 162 or and 18ft!

Stick with the Sharp and rebuild it. Marshan's snap at the nose unless reinforced (waiting for angry replies lol).
I loved my Sharp, beautiful shape even if it was a bit snug when it had me and my brother next to (or should that be on top with only a 4.5' beam lol) each other.
sell all your other stuff and treat yourself to a 200hp for the Sharp lol.

hahaa I could dream of a 200hp! the Sharp is getting bit tired
giving her a new floor and transom work and TLC
so the 16ft crusader is a kind of stop gap and bit of fun!!
marshans snap??????

no pics just 2 experiences from friends and family,
my uncles 1988 18 with a 90hp merc new from factory (called Psycho, bought by someone in Ireland to rebuild), lasted 4 years and then split on the left side just under the visor area. a very lightly used family boat driven by an experienced driver.
the other
a friend not sure what year, 18 with a 225hp Suzuki, he claims that it was driven fairly and it split both sides just under the visor.
to be fair I have seen this guy drive a boat and I would be surprised if it was fairly! I would say he drives boats harder than this banana is driving the other

I have an I6 115 (1984 prop rated wearing, at the moment, 1972 clothes) that I run on my Stapely Hawk (see avatar) that I have just rebuilt, runs a shade under 60 which isn't bad for a late 60's 16' boat & puts a big grin on yer fizz! Boat always had a I6 on since she was built for ski racing. I also have a short shaft 1970 I6 135 here waiting for a boat to be finished.
I love the old Kiekhaefer based Mercs as I am into classic boats, the later stuff, whilst undoubtedly more powerful & economic, doesn't float my boat. Nothing else has (to me) the presence of a tower of power. Those raceboats back in the day with 3,4,5 or 6 of them on the back were something to behold!
