All Crews Intending To Race Torquay 5/6th May!
ATTENTION ALL CREWS!!
If you are intending to support and enter this race can you PLEASE send in your entry forms ASAP or let US/SHIRLEY know your intentions?
A confirmation on here will help.....
But with entries at the current level there is a VERY REAL DANGER of this event being CANCELLED !
We are all working very hard for our sport and appreciate times are difficult but without your support we cannot afford to put races on without knowing if there will be enough entries to run.....
The Committee.

My entry will be in the post this afternoon - despite the £350 + £100 entry fee ...............
PS If you wanted to know numbers earlier maybe an earlier deadline would have been more appropriate?
"I enclose for you an Entry Form that I ask you to complete and return to me with 50% your Entry Fee prior to attending the event by Friday 27 April 2012"

Have a word with the ORC, I'm sure it could be made to fit Marathon.

Looks like we'll have someone to race against after all! No Phantom 32?

Torquay entries!
Can all crews intending to race at Torquay on 5/6th of May who have not sent in their entries please contact Shirley as soon as possible to confirm their intent to enter.?
Unfortunately we have had some cancelled entries and are now marginal on numbers to make the event viable.
We REALLY do need final numbers by Friday PLEASE or the committee will have to take a view on whether the event can go ahead.
Thank you
ORDA Committee

Had an email last night confirming that it's off - It's a big shame as it seems to be down to some people pulling out who had originally entered.

Personal View
As a commitee member of ORDA I was part of the decision making process that had led to the cancellation of the Torquay event, and so if anybody has any comment or issue on this please address it to me rather than have an uninformed debate here on boatmad.
Obviously this decision has not been taken lightly, and has left the commitee of ORDA feeling somewhat deflated, especially those who were going to be on the water racing of which I was one.
Huge amounts of work had gone on behind the scenes organising this event, and everything was in place for a great weekend.
The only thing that let it down was a lack of entries, and this brings me back to my post of a few days ago.
The racers themselves need to take some responsibility for this situation and need to support racing as a whole or else we will continue to lose events, because as I warned the other day we are fast approaching game over.
It seems that because we only had one days racing was an issue to some crews, but we had explained that because of a VIP visit to Torquay on Saturday we were not allowed on the water both days. This was not a club decision it was forced on us by the venue, and as I say sometimes you just have to go with the flow and put personal preferences behind you.
It is simply impossible for clubs to run races with just a half a dozen boats or so entered. It is not financially viable, it is embarrasing to watch, and there is no way we can sell this sorry state to possible venues. This is why we pulled the plug at this late stage, having given the maximum amount of time we could to secure entries.
I therfore say all potential powerboat racers, you need to get off your arses and enter events and support the clubs, or this is it. End of racing.
At the moment I have to say also that Littlehampton is in our minds in jeapordy, as we suspect that the entry level is going to be similar.
I fear also for RMYC Poole. I dont know their entry level, but I know that BOB has beeen rallying round for entries, so you want this race to succeed then you all need to get your entries in at the earliest opportunity so that the club knows with some degree of certainty that it can host the event.
If this is the entry level we are going to have for 2012 I personally do not see other clubs being able to sustain events also.
From my perspective all I can say is that I love the sport of powerboat racing, and for whatever its faults I would rather have racing with these faults than no racing at all.
For once please lets all try to do something useful so prevent a total collapse, lets all get our heads together, come up with an agreement for the format of events and the classes, where competitiors will enter and then get on with it, good or bad.
To that end perhaps we could arrange a meeting of competitors to try and achieve this, where we all attend with open minds and a positive attitude, putting all previous issues behind. Perhaps that way we can save the sport in the UK.
Other countries have successful racing. Sweden, Norway, Italy, Guernsey. Why cant we?
Your constructive comments here on boatmad as to how we can resolve this situation will be most welcome from my perspective.
However I suspect that there will be complete apathy on this, and if this is the case, and racing dissapears then we have no one to blame but ourselves.

Torquay event cancelled.
Due to unforseen issues and a number of teams withdrawing their entries we have had to cancel this event.
