Yes Cookee that about sums it up !!

As for classes Simon WP would be best one to answer that but I think it boils down to everyone wanting to be in their own class which is a bit impractical (Just as well buy their own trophies)
There seems to be very little joined up thinking in Marathon with no mandated club to give direction !!

+1! I believe that the RYA are the only people that can make it work unless every club joins forces and works together - I find it hard to believe that (allegedly) intelligent people can't see the advantage in that.

Have to agree about Classes what is going on in Class 3
Stock or sport has a 1 litre difference what a Joke

Personally unless there are a minimum of 5 boats in our class I wouldn't want to race. Others have different opinions.

Changing from a power to weight ratio into a length to weight ratio has screwed up the guys with diesels and the safety of the sport.

Not sure if many know but because of that change some highly respected racers while not race here again.

As someone said before - too many different clubs and too many classes / types of racing.

I think the organsiers and RYA have tried to please too many people / opinions - and you just end up with a bit of a mess.

Even talking to organisers this year - all desperate for entries - but in trying to please they say they will run classes for anyone who wants to turn up. But actually you just know there are going to be nearly as many classes as teams - and actually makes it all pretty pointless (literally in terms of championship points).

So - somehow I feel the sport has to streamline and concentrate on a few classes that have a chance of bringing in entries.

End result was that I sold my raceboat - and have not commited to a new one - yet.

(Just my opinions and nothing to do with any club / organisations that I belong to)

Sorry to hear that!

We appreciate that with the current economic climate times are hard, but with only a few boats coming forward to race this year, it has not been enough. We sincerely appreciate those entries that did race and cannot thank all the officials and safety boats enough. All those concerned made every effort to make this event very successful, but sadly it was not enough. We will still continue as a Club but will not run any more races.
I fully understand the decision and I think no one would expect the Club/Committee to have to personally fund events.Lets hope some collaboration of clubs can see future events prosper as I think this is the only way forward.Nic

Just goes to show how stupid the law makers are in this sport.

They make a class for 1 boat or I guess 1 size of engine.

Tried asking a question on another thread about the changes what was the purpose?
I can only gather that the powers that be. do it for there own personal gain but that has back fired to as there ain't new boats being built and racers joining the circus.

For the last 4 years there are no more than 10 marathon boats UK owned that will race so to make any race you need them to be as 1

And all the other classes to make a weekend of it.

May aswell put the boot in with the Lymington challenge. A couple of years ago we entered raced around Hurst and it was great and there was a organised spectators boat in the middle watching (wife a kids sometines need to know what the old man is up to) the whole race. Went down last year thinking this will be brill and never saw the boats again once they left the pontoons as they raced so far out to sea. Bloody waste of time sitting at Hurst telling people on the beach what a great event this will be. Saw some roosters from a far at the start and that was it.
Won't bother going next year.

With respect to C & C-Sport with the small capacity difference, that was completely down to Fabio insisting on the FPT motors either fitting into C class, or getting it's own dedicated class.
The whole of the then TWG (with me as chair) agreed that it was completely wrong to bow to Buzzi, and the FPT's should fall into B class as planned. Unfortunately, Buzzi called his mate Beaverbrook and leaned on him, who in turn put pressure on the RYA, who in turn completely over-ruled the TWG's decision and created C-Sport for Buzzi / Boninc. It was a joke, I resigned as chair in protest, the rest is history.

Speaking for marathon boats you need some a few quid to race.

I have a boat in the garden that needs about 10 grand spent on it just to get it back in shape. Need an artic to move it, entry fee so much more than small boats, new licences and training due to the RYA and about £1200 for fuel.
And if something breaks as it did on the Cancer research race a few years back that was 4 grand.

Then when we race were in the middle of know where as were not wanted.

All for a couple of hours racing.

All in the middle of a recession.

Or I can eat in great restaurants drink fine wine and go on fancy holidays

Or you could get a real boat for 5 or 6k and have some great racing for not a lot of money !!
I cant see why so many insist on owning boats they cant afford to use.

How true is this some racers just think they have the funds to race but just like to "show" off I'm sure you all know the ones i mean! Claire
