Grievances

Neal
I refer you to post number 40 .
Man up grow a pair and sit down with the people you feel have treated you badly and discuss the issues.

I suggest all competitors get together on the sat afternoon of the RMYC race and air the issues?

Jay

Just picked up another marathon entry making 9, so we still have a spare tracker available, so please don't sit on the fence, as no tracker no race for marathon class.

Still waiting for confirmation of how many 3B's but it's looks like just 4.

We currently have 10 BCC's plus if we can get Nic on the water that's 11.

The RMYC Needles Trophy 1987

25 years ago, the Needles Trophy race was held on August 23rd.

It was the race where Didier Pironi lost his life with his 2 crew members

It was the first race powerboat snapper Chris Davies attended, (this was when Sally Windsor worked out the small photographer gets sea sick and advised him to use a helicopter in future events)

CMC show runner Mike Lloyd won in National Cruiser Class B with Jon Baker

Ciao drove a steady race, gaining a 3rd in 3B - Enough points to ensure Ciao snr the 3B RYA Navigator National Championship

Of all the finishers that day, only Nik Keyser will be racing this coming Sunday.

Poole Quay - car parking

Info sent out to competitors :-

Dear All, the weather looking good for the weekend, warm with a bit of a chop !!!

As you are aware we are running from Poole Quay all weekend, with race control in the Thistle Hotel, the road is closed for both days, so please enter the Quay from the Baiter Park end (now called Harbour Side Park), please do not enter from the middle of the Quay and try turning left at the big roundabout as this will be closed.

Race boats and tow vehicles plus a support vehicle for those turning up by sea will be parked on the road outside the Thistle, all other cars must use the public car parks, a good place to park is in West Quay Road near the new Poole Bridge (in the pits we used in 2010) near the RNLI college, as it only £4 for the day and a 10 minute walk to the pits. If you do try to park at the rear of the Thistle Hotel this is camera controlled, and you only have 20 minutes to pay before being fined.

As this is the first year back on the Quay with the race, please work with us, the council are looking for a powerboat display, not a car park or camp site, we will do our best to accommodate all your needs.

See you at the Weekend - Bob

John, I was racing that day in Babycresci, we were running second about 150 yards behind Peroni, off Christchurch Ledge, when he rolled his boat, having hit a big wash on a very calm day. As it came up we saw helmets in the water and assumed that they were all OK, we didn't stop as in those days there were lots of spectator boats and there were half a dozen in the vicinity.
We led the race for a time and then blew an engine, (we had only just rebuilt the boat having barrel rolled it in Oregrund). The Needles Trophy and Cowes were rounds of the European class 1 championship which regularly had 30 class 1 boats. Most were Italian as they used to use racing as a way to move currency out of Italy which at the time was very hard to achieve.
When we got back to the quay we heard the news and we were all devistated, we had kept Babycresci in Peroni's yard outside St Tropez and we had been to his house for a barby on a couple of occasions. He was a really very nice chap.
So whilst not a classified finisher, I was a race leader all that time ago!

OMG! was that 25 years ago, time is slipping away too damned fast but, I can still remember that race.

Hope everything goes well today and all competitiors have a great time. It's the right type of day for it. Compliments to Bob for what looks like a great race and for getting the show back on the Quay. Will be watching from my lap top from somewhere or other.
ML.
