Sounds more like a last minute logistical retreat, rather than an outright surrender, lol !

Thunderbolt, with respect, and Peter and Adam, too. In varying degrees, you are full of peas, and Martin has it right.

You OPEN the structure (not further restrain it), and the home-built, inventive, red-dirt tested homebrew engines (and various popular auto-diesel conversions) will pop out of the woodwork and sort themselves into classes.

RYA/UIM and the various trous, belt & braces (plus quick-handed 9yr-old boy close a-rear) H&S fooferaw are the 2nd villian killing racing. First is, of course, the economy, but there is a massive subset of officialdom who worship process over product, Aidan Foley comes to mind (JP, SWP, PD, certainly, on a baser level), and either discourage existing racers, or, in AF's particular case, make lifelong enemies out of racers.

Racing was killed in the states, too, (and for many of the same reasons and similar midgets and egos) but 'racing' is doing just fine, and maybe, just maybe, SEPA's Poker Run will herald the rejuvenation and rebirth of British 'racing.'

The RYA and various toadies & 'well-meaning' midgets have killed Racing, and CTC-2013 is the last rales.

RIP and thank you for your service, John.

Im all for that idea Adam.

The best racing for me was the old "Touring Class", Joe public could watch boats racing that with a little hard work could be obtainable.

The bigger boats are very nice to see and hear (if petrol), but are simply unobtainable for most ordinary people making it elitist.

Just my opinion for what its worth.

Totally agree,
Adam do you remember the drawings / design you did for my 1996?

Just to remind you 30' long with a single Diesel, I was planning to marinise a Mercedes 330hp, by opening the pump would give about 370bhp

Keep it simple

How gutted am I at not being able to attend what looks to be the last race at Cowes. Sad doesn't come close. I know it's not over yet, but thank you John and the entire organising committee for keeping it going for so long. I hope it's a fitting event and that the weather plays ball for a wonderful spectacle. Will all photographers kindly share their efforts afterwards - plenty of us will be grateful. And to those who will be joining me on the Yellowbrick - can't wait!

Indeed - and such a good size / possible class. Allows all sorts of engines, drives etc.

For sure rules need to be kept very simple and allow / encourage different approaches. That's what really attracted to me to offshore racing so many years ago.

Also remember many of the single engine boats doing CTC all those years ago. Boats like Miss Sweden, Euphonic, Siesta and then some of the UK boats including Fletcher 25's and various one-offs. Then onto slightly more modern times - various RIBs, inboard B28 etc etc

Lots of fast boats around this size being developed at the moment - and together with much better engine reliability nowadays - it could make pretty economical racing - providing ways are found to reduce entry fee's and all the red tape.

Yep, 'IF' being the longest word in the English Language, and your use of the passive voice emphasises that exact gulf between promise and performance.

Can you imagine the RYA and their attendant, syncophantic H&S nannies relaxing their rules and regs to allow anything that might be fun to try?

seriously

Why don't you all group together and buy a reef.
John HAS said the BPRC ain't going to organises the race no more.

That does not mean the end od CTC.

Words are cheap

There is a way for the CTC to continue and it's staring you all in the face but I will leave that to Maxwell Beaverbrook and the BPRC to resolve. Best of all is that it doesn't involve the RYA!

Thunderbolt (Mike) has made some excellent points earlier (OK I would say that - as we are both in COPC), but a time trial type event using a simple handicap system of slowest first, fastest last should be workable.
Boats start individually - I have experience of a similar system for a different sport, on the road - entrants start at either set intervals apart, or at intervals decreed by a handicap system.
It can be incorporated into a Poker-Run style event if one wished - but the main thing would be NOT to call it a race - then it can be a club type event, & outside of the remits of The RYA & UIM.
The development of new designs, etc could be brought in gradually perhaps, so that existing race boats could continue to run until it was advantagious to entrants to experiment more.
It would hopefully attract back cruisers, as awards could be for best beating of target times, Best-all-Rounder, etc, as has been suggested.
There are many options, one just has to "think outside the box" !

Just like the Schneider Air Race!! In theory they should all cross the line together at the finish, great stuff.

I have been thinking about something similar myself.
Single engine class, max 30’, and with a weight so it can be towed behind a normal car would be good for us with a normal income.
I think it’s easier to have a limit on engine displacement than power, as power is difficult to police.

New Class

Great idea, but who buy these boats, as the people who already have race boats would struggle to sell their own.
